Very Impressive
Reviewed by Andrew. Review Posted 16/08/2006

I found the reviews of the iPAQ rx1950 Navigator to be mixed at best, but thought I'd give it a try as it looked like good value for money. Guess what? It actually is!

The rx1950 is a solid entry-level Pocket PC with great functionality and a very impressive media performance. Reviews have slated the GPS features of the unit. I had no trouble setting it up and found the ViaMichelin software acceptable and not as buggy as some have mentioned. However, I did upgrade to TomTom (which was also surprisingly simple) so the unit is now a very competent GPS system. I added a 2Gb SD card so it easily handles all of my programs and files.

I was considering buying another PDA and a seperate SatNav unit for nearly £500. I'm glad I saved my money and got this at £242. Bargain!

Why would anyone buy a standalone Navigation System
Reviewed by James. Review Posted 20/07/2006

The HP iPAQ is fantastic, It is a Satelite Navigation System, an MP3 Player, a video player and a handheld games console all roled into one.

If you take everything you can do with a PDA you realise that it is remarkable value for money.

The pack comes with excellent and compact car holder which houses the GPS Reciver and charger for the PDA.

The ViaMichalin nagivation software is basic but competent. a little tricky to get use to but will get to your destination. However the beauty of it is, if you can't stand the ViaMichalin software, remove it and put TomTom software on instead.

Why on earth would you buy a standalone GPS device when this is so much more flexable.

rx 1950 navigator

Great package, GPS reciever works very well and PDA itself is also good. Initial teething problem with PDA power-up problem after having beed off for a while, but this was fixed with a BIOS upgrade from the HP support web-site.
Viamichelin software stable but quirky with sometimes difficult address searching in the UK, France better though !!

HP iPAQ rx1950 Navigator

I purchased this from DABS and it was delivered within 12 hours, couldn’t believe it. Ordered around 8 pm popped home from work at 9am and it had been delivered. Had a few initial problems with wifi connection in my house and on a few occasions it wouldn’t start up and I had to do a reset (not a master reset) Contacted HP direct about this and downloaded a fix for the start up problem. For the wifi problem I downloaded an update for that too form netgear and now everything is fine with the unit. I purchased mainly for a sat nav which is fine although the post code search on Michelin navigator is a bit poor (only recognises 2 digits of the post code in Blackpool). With the free software with Ipaq choices I can now convert my own DVDs to watch on the unit which will be great for in flight entertainment. Beware that the gps part of the unit is in the car bracket so its no good for walking use. Summing up its fantastic what ever you need one for.
