Better Late Than Never!

“Dunc, when ARE you doing another blog?!”

I know, I know, it’s been a while – and I can only apologise to those of you that have followed Dunc’s Deals since July last year – I really have been busy and not lazy (as some have suggested – yes you Debs!) but hopefully from here on out normal service will resume with weekly ramblings and a few hand-picked specials!

The wise amongst you have already signed up to the forum and been taking advantage of the latest and greatest deals we’ve been dropping on there. Sam, Matt and I have tried to keep the questions answered and the community members are always on hand to help – if you’re not yet a member get involved!

First off, I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year! Although it does seem a distant memory now, it really was only four weeks ago! Thank god its almost pay-day as its been a long month – with that said we have some belting deals for you below. Bully is back for the 2011 – and he wants you to invest your wages wisely!

January has been an unbelievably busy month for products on dabs. We announced that thanks to the success of our Self-Build Bundles we have brought Patriot Memory on as a brand in its own right, and have some killer deals on their ranges in stock today.

Also this month, Intel released their long awaited and hugely anticipated 2nd Generation Core Processors – the new Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs came into stock and many sold out instantly! We have got a huge range of Gigabyte and Asus motherboards ready for the new LGA 1155 socket CPUs and as ever we have some brand new Self-Build Bundles ready – review the full Intel page here.

Corsair Vengeance Memory, which was released to huge acclaim last year was also made available at Dabs this month – we have the full range set-up and plenty of stock at great pricing. Make sure you check the deals below for some great Dunc’s Deals on Memory!

Our lead designer, Mike, has been hard at work putting together the new PC Upgrade for 2011 landing page which looks the dogs wotsits – on there you will find the latest and greatest PC Components ready for any PC Upgrade, bookmark it and check back regularly!

Wrapping up “news” this week is the NVIDIA launch of the brand new GTX 560Ti graphics cards. The new addition to the GeForce line up “equips you with up to 3x the performance of previous generations and enjoy the GeForce GTX gaming experience with the latest technologies such as DirectX 11, NVIDIA® Surround, 3D Vision™, PhysX®, and SLI®” With a starting price of £199.99 these are well worth a look – we recommend the 1GHz Gigabyte Super Overclocked BADBWOY!

While on the subject of NVIDIA, make sure you check out the ‘Show Us Your Claw’ competition where you could win an NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX560 Ti 3D Vision PC or 5 runners up prizes of the new GeForce® GTX560 Ti graphics cards! Be innovative with your entries!

New Year, New Deals… same Challenge Dunc! Just as you did in the yesteryear 2010, you can keep firing in the ‘Price Match Challenges’ and specific deal requests to the email inbox, I am still getting lots but welcome more – get in touch you will always get a reply!

Now the real reason for the delay in Dunc’s Deals returning is I’ve been waiting for Bully to fully recover from his MAMMOTH new year hangover (he was a real mess) but he’s back on form now and has lined up FIVE killer deals for the weekend!

Iiiiiin 1! OCZ Technology 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 already over £25 off, yours with an extra £5 off, usually £39.99!

Iiiiiin 2! Corsair Memory Vengeance 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3, currently £84.99, yours for under £80!

Iiiiiin 3! NetGear Stora 2-Bay NAS, currently £64.99, get £5 off with Bully!

Iiiiiin 4! Asus Intel 2nd Generation P67 Bundle (Mobo and CPU), £5 off – under £295!

Iiiiiin 5! Western Digital 1TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive, currently £49.99 – now £46.99!

Finally make sure you check out the Crucial RealSSD Price downs – these are limited time offers to save up to £50 on SATA 6Gb/s solid state drives!

Keep spreading the word of the blog, offers and dabs in general, and remember if you send me examples of you getting the word out and I’ll send you a download code for Lost Planet 2!

Andy Gray and Richard Keys have been the talk of the country this week following some choice words about female officials in football – no matter what you think about it, the best review of the whole situation was the reporting hypocrisy discussed by Charlie Brooker on last nights 10 O’Clock Live on Channel 4! If you missed it, 4OD!

I want to sign off today in the spirit of Russell Howard with a “Good News” story that I hope some of you have seen. The man with the Golden Voice – Ted Williams – an ex-radio voiceover from Ohio has been re-discovered on the streets following years of drink and drug abuse and a chance YouTube clip has helped him get back on his feet and to work once again! Super-fans of  homeless Ted will be pleased to know that his former tent AND infamous cardboard sign are now for sale on ebay! Good luck to you Ted!

“Don’t Call It A Come Back!”

Hello. It’s me. Dunc. Remember me?

Old faithful readers of Dunc’s Deal will realise that it’s been three long weeks since my last update. I’m not one for excuses, but I will let you know why I’ve been MIA. Two weeks ago was the morning after the infamous Dabs Diamond Awards – and yes as per your voting I wore the kilt! In true Diamond Awards fashion, we were all feeling a little delicate the morning after, and all my hazy mind would focus on was Dominos Pizza. Then last week – as kindly documented by Michelle – I was MIA! I actually took a little holiday – which I know shouldn’t be allowed, as the Customer Service team have been telling me all week!

I’m back now and fully refreshed, so let’s get back to the deals! Make sure you subscribe to the blog so you can get RSS updates whenever we post!

8GB iPod TouchLast week Michelle launched a great promotion for you guys to win an iPod – but guess what – you didn’t take advantage! Shame on you! So for one week (ends 11/11/10) I am going to extend the offer  for you to win an 8GB iPod Touch. Simply place your order and email me via duncsdeals@dabs.com with your order number. I will then enter you into the draw and will announce the winner next week.

As mentioned in my last post, the dabs.com forum is up and running, and in under three weeks we have already racked up 1,000 posts and over 450 members! Thanks to all the active posters and readers of the forum. If you’re not a member, make sure you sign up today and take advantage of the community knowledge and platform to get in touch with us!

Since I got back we’ve all been busy in the office preparing for everyone’s* favourite time of year – Christmas! This week our head of Design, Mike, has been chained to his desk and been plied with Dominos Pizza in order to get our Christmas Consumer Catalogue out of the door. Many of you will receive it through the post over the coming weeks and the rest will be able to access it online with the digital edition which is coming soon!

*everyone except Michelle – the marketing manager – who makes Scrooge look festive!

The catalogue is packed full of festive deals and offers – some of which I’ve been working on myself! They include the fantastic Synology Santa and our Merry ChristNAS promotion which gives you the chance to win Apple iPods just for buying Network Attached Storage from dabs!

This industry never ceases to amaze me! In just three weeks the amount of product news I could deliver here is mind-boggling! I’ve selected a few gems for you that you should definitely consider!

First up is the long awaited and hugely sought after 3TB internal hard drives from WD. The storage giant broke rank and got the 3TB beats to market first – even ensuring they have a ready made solution for the Operating System inability to hand over 2.2TB! The new drives, available in 2.5TB and 3TB options, ship with the Host Bus Adapter required to overcome the software issue! Stock on the 3TB is expected later this month – get your orders on today to avoid disappointment.

As Michelle mentioned last week the new range of ATI Radeon graphics cards hit the shelves last week – the new 6800 series delivered the 6870 and 6850 at fantastic new price points – ensure you check out the ranges.

What’s fast and Portable and coming into stock on dabs.com?

Well it’s the brand new WD My Passport range with USB 3.0 connectivity

*Ripple of groans from around the office*

It’s no joke! Check them out today

Promotion-wise, we’ve teamed up with Shuttle to give you the chance to win a Samsung LE32C530 32″ 5 Series 1080p FullHD LCD TV worth over £350 in November! The promotion is simple – just buy any of the Shuttle products shown on the promo page during November and you will automatically go into a draw to win when your order has been shipped. Thanks for filling up my Dunc’s Deal inbox while I was away – once again, the response to “Challenge Dunc” has been immense and I am going to keep the doors open via email or speak to Dunc. Keep the suggested deals, ‘Price Match Challenges’ and any requests coming in, and ill do all I can to help!

With the office currently buzzing about upcoming trip to the darts (or ‘the arrows’ for those in the know), this week I’ve been influenced by Bullseye hero, Bully – so…

Iiiiiin 1! ATI Lovers can bag the XFX Radeon 5770 1GB, currently £109.99, yours today for £106.99!
Iiiiiin 2! NVIDIA fans can get the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB, currently £169.98, yours today for £164.99!

Iiiiiin 4! No discounts here, it’s already an amazing price! The Seagate 500GB MomentusXT Hybrid Hard Drive gives you SSD-Like Performance at an affordable price! Only £94.98!
Iiiiiin 5! Save yourself £10 on the Samsung 1TB Portable Hard Drive, currently £84.98, yours today for £74.98

Remember, keep spreading word about the blog offers and let me know about when you mention the blog online as you WILL bag yourself a freebie!

The age old adage is never more apt than on Bonfire Night! Tonight’s the night millions of us will risk life and limb for a sparkler and a dream! Dogs will seek refuge under dining tables while people will stand in the rain for hours eating toffee apples and edging closer to flames licking off door frames and old pallets.

Enjoy your fire-filled weekends, but stay safe, or I’ll send Welephant round – he was at our school every year to make sure we were safe from the hazards of flame! Remember remember the 5th of November… and remember remember to stop by next week for more Dunc’s Deals updates!

Dunc's Missing!

Where is Dunc? Help! Components guru missing in action!

Its official, Dunc has left the building!! The desk of the bushy eye-browed one is looking sadly empty and someone has already nicked his chair!  Hang on, calm down, before you start to panic and dig your black arm bands out you can breathe a sigh of relief as he’s only taken a few days annual leave. Yes, he’s been working his little Nvidia branded socks* off so much that we’ve decided he deserves a (small) break. For this week I’m afraid you’re stuck with me but rest assured normal service will be resumed next week.

(*Dunc has a variety of socks and has no preference to NVidia or any other brand)8GB iPod Touch

Now, I’m not going to pretend to be a product expert like Dunc, nor can I promise you witty antidotes about big breakfasts, kilts and curries but what I can offer you are great deals and a cracking competition. I’ve rifled through Dunc’s stash of goodies and if you place an order between now and Bonfire night you could be in with a chance of winning an 8GB iPod Touch. Simply place your order and email Dunc at duncsdeals@dabs.com your order number. He’ll enter you into the draw and will announce the lucky winner in his blog next week.

So, what’s new at Dabs? Well, last week we hosted the annual Dabs Diamond Awards where we awarded your favourite manufacturers a prestigious Diamond Award. Thousands of you voted and on the night we had all your favourite brands there gagging to know who the winners were. Check out our winners list to see if your favourite brand won. If they didn’t make it this year make sure you vote for them next year!

The awards must have put us in a good mood as this week we’ve gone promotion crazy with offers on Storage, laptops and a range of Sony products. If storage is your thing then check out our latest storage deals in our Storage Spectacular. There’s something for everyone with 2TB internal drives from £72.99, 1TB external storage at just £54.99 and SSD at £144.99 for 128GB. If you’re on the look out for a new laptop or netbook, we’ve got some great deals in our Pricecrash at the moment starting with netbooks at £223 up to an Acer Core i5 at just £597.99. My favourite is actually the Core i3 Acer at £419.99 and the way they’re flying out this week I don’t think that I’m the only one.

Storage Spectacular

If Sony is the only brand for you then you’ll love their VAT back promo which they launched this week.  There’s a range of products from laptops and touchscreen PCs to digital cameras and LCD TVs. Buy before the 24th December and Sony will refund the VAT you pay. We’re a bit light on stock at the moment but rest assured it will be here soon!

We’ve also had a busy week preparing for the launch of our Christmas store. Yes I know it feels like ages off and the fact that it seems to arrive earlier each year is annoying but we know that a lot of you like to get ahead with your shopping so keep checking the site for our Christmas gift ideas. We’ll have something for everyone and if you’re stuck for gift ideas for your very own IT guru why not drop Dunc an email for some suggestions?Mr Frosty

If I’m honest I’m not a big fan of Christmas and yes, I do know that the marketing team call me Scrooge! In my defence I personally think that my dislike of Christmas stems from me not getting the present that I really wanted when I was a kid. Year after year I put it on the list and year after year dear old Santa failed to deliver. What was it you ask? Mr Frosty! That fantastic machine that turned ice into a rather poor excuse for a slush puppy! I appreciate now that I probably would have used it once and then got bored of it but it’s just not the point! Anyway rant over! What have you always wanted for Christmas but never got?   Post your comment below and the most amusing answer will win £200 to spend on whatever they want at Dabs! Originality please – certain female x-factor judges or premiership footballers are Rio Riotnot what we had in mind!

Talking of my childhood, I read this week that Sony are stopping production of the Sony cassette Walkman in Japan. To be honest with you I didn’t realise that they still made them having sold my soul to Apple some years ago but it did get me thinking about my first MP3 player. It was a Rio Riot and weighed a ton but it was 20GB and cost me 50 quid back from Dabs in 2003. I must admit to hiding it in my bag on train journeys and it did need its own generator to charge it but the point is that it got me onto MP3 and I have never looked back.  What was the first piece of tech to make a difference to your life?

For those of you who always want the latest kit you’ll probably have the new ati 6800 series on your radar. We’ve got a variety of cards in stock in both the 6870 and 6850 ranges. Check them out today.

And finally talk moves back to Christmas (bah humbug) with Dunc’s very own Synology Santa promo. Simply buy the Synology 2 bay Nas and each week one lucky buyer will win two 1TB hard drives. This promo is running until the 28th November so there’s plenty of time to win!

That’s it from me. Enjoy your weekend and don’t forget to put your clocks back an hour!

“McDunc – I’m Not Lovin’ It”

Just when you thought this week couldn’t get any betterafter the jubilant return of the Chilean miners… it’s the return of Dunc! Happy Friday everyone!

In the same week as 33 Chilean miners returned from two months underground, dabs.com FC recorded their second win on the bounce – two amazing feats of endurance and teamwork! I am still at a loss to as how it happened – not the Chilean miners, they got out thanks to planning and precision – I’m talking about our back to back victories! The mind boggles!

For next week only, you can call me McDunc – no thanks to you lot. I’m going back to my semi-Scottish roots! In the seven days since the last update, the majority of you have managed to ensure that the “Should Dunc wear a Kilt to the Dabs Diamond Awards later this month” poll is leaning heavily in favour of me donning the tartan and showing my pins – thanks for that! While I may be less than grateful for your votes in the poll, we are grateful for all your votes for the actual awards – the response has been overwhelming! The votes are now closed and are being counted and verified by our very own Dermot O’Leary – Michelle. The winners will be announced online after the awards ceremony next week, as will the winner of the prize for voting – stay tuned!

Today marks the day that the long awaited new game Medal of Honor is released in the UK, and as those eagle eyed regulars to the blog will have seen, we have secured an exclusive offer in conjunction with the guys at EA Store. For today only you can get 20% off with a voucher code, to get the code and the full details check out the blog post.

This week we have launched two new aspects on dabs.com – a new section of the Blog called “Ponderings” and our long awaited forum! The new blog section opened with our very own Matt giving his thoughts on memories and the need, or rather not, to retain them.

The forum, which went live yesterday, has been in the idea stages for some time and we know many of you have been waiting for us to get one online for even longer! Well the wait is over – and we have to thank all the IT guys (Alex, Ste, Mark), the marketing team (Mike, Matt and Sam) and everyone who helped bring the forum online over recent weeks. Sign up today and get posting, as there is a special prize that will be announced later today on the forum!

In The News

Quiet week in all honesty, lots going on but very little of it has caught my eye – don’t forget you guys can always submit stories you find interesting via comments or Speak to Dunc and ill ensure if I use them you get credited! One thing that did catch the eye was the ever-busy Google. Whilst finding time to squeeze in  a 32% jump in profits, they also have announced that they have been testing automated cars that have clocked up over 100,000 miles without human interaction – crazy!

Product News!

Last week you guys took to the news of the Synology USB Station 2 pre-order by placing your pre-orders in droves! Today stock has landed and you can now secure the product for under £80!

This week we have a host of new offers ready for you to take advantage of, the first is a new Self-Build bundle! Those of you who are familiar with our Asus Intel and AMD bundles will know what to expect, but this time we have partnered with Gigabyte to offer a one off Ultimate Bundle! The bundle sees the GA-890FXA-UD5 Motherboard, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T, Corsair 4GB DDR3 [2x2GB] Memory and  Windows 7 Home Premium brought together for under £450! Not only that, but we are throwing in 2 Game Downloads: Storm Rise + Lost Planet! Stock due next week!

This week saw the launch of the new NVIDIA GTS 430 range of Graphics cards that are aimed at the casual gamer market and those looking for performance from their PC. From editing photos to HD video, watching blu-ray movies and playing DX11 titles like Civilization V – the new cards pack a punch at a great price point. Check out the range we have starting at under £60.

Finally, just today we have launched two new promotions on dabs.com. First up is the Netgear ReadyNAS duo, where you can claim a 1TB or 2TB hard drive for free on selected models and the second is on Western Digital VelociRaptor Hard Drives where you can get yourself a FREE copy of the just released Medal of Honor game for PC! Check out the full details and see the included drives here.

Product Deals & Challenge Dunc Continues!

After a great response to last week’s “Challenge Dunc” I’m looking forward to seeing what next this brings – suggest deals you want to see and drop me a note via ‘Speak to Dunc’ with your ‘Price Match Challenges’ this week, and I’ll do all I can to get the deal you need!

First up on the exclusive front, I want to ensure you get the BEST price in the market right now for the Samsung 1TB S2 Portable hard drive. Currently on dabs you can get at an already amazing price of £89.99, and last week I offered it to you guys for £79.99. But for one week only, with this link, you can get it for even less – £76.98!

Moving on to some Solid State Drive deals, we’ve just taken stock of some fantastically price OCZ Onyx Series products. The 64GB is now down to £79.99 and the 128GB has hit a great price of £159.98. I can’t knock anything else off, but I am going to say that if you buy one you can have a £40 game voucher for EA Store – just email me with your Sales Order Number!

Some of you have already spotted it, but to those that haven’t, you should take advantage of the special bundle that is on the Intel Ultimate Self-Build Bundle. Right now you can save over £20 on Kingston HyperX 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz Memory when bought with the bundle – check it out today and take advantage!

Remember, keep spreading word about the blog offers and let me know about when you mention the blog online as you WILL bag yourself a freebie!

Anyone For Curry?

OK that’s it for another week – I’m off out tonight with some of the boys from work for a few beverages of the alcoholic variety and a curry at Akbars in Manchester! It is with a heavy heart (but a belly full of curry) that we will be celebrating the departure of Mike in our IT Development team, who is off to pastures new – yes celebrating, we didn’t like him much anyway! Only joking Mike, you know you’ll be missed!!

Have a good weekend and don’t forget to enter our “Win a buyagift.com experience worth £150”. In the words of our proposal Romeo, Mike, as mentioned last week – “I only have one question…”

Kilts, Mr Boombastic, Sabertooth Motherboards & Deals Galore!

“Challenge Dunc, It’s like Challenge Anneka without Shell-suits!”

Its update 13 and I start with the news that it is indeed unlucky for some – in this case me! I’ve been stitched up, royally stitched up! A couple of weeks ago the marketing team kindly suggested I run a vote to see if anyone wanted me to tackle the 5,000 calorie breakfast. I gallantly agreed, expecting no one to care – but plenty of you did, and now I have to tackle it next week!

Anyway, the stitching up continues, as today I find out that the marketing team had a meeting yesterday, and within  said meeting,  they have decided that the next vote will be… “Should Dunc wear a Kilt to the Dabs Diamond Awards later this month?” So, as the marketing team make the rules round these parts, the vote is now live on the homepage of the blog – knock yourselves out! While you’re voting for me make sure you get your votes in for the actual awards too – you can win a projector don’t you know! If you’ve got a favourite tartan, or you’re an avid kilt wearer and can give me some top tips about dealing with the pesky breeze, then drop your comments below!

The first week of October has been an eventful one here at dabs already – aside from Kilt-Gate! First up the dabs.com 6-a-Side team (which plays every Tuesday at Bolton Arena) recorded a famous and record breaking victory (well for us) over the new boys to the league – ‘Standard Liege’. The team – Brad, Mike, Mark, Sam, Pete aka Eginho, Paul and myself  – won 26-2 and have taken great pleasure revelling in the victory.

If you’re a fan of Soccer AM, you’ll be pleased to hear that we showed some unbelievable tekkers! Wish us luck against our greatest of rivals – ‘Chorley McDonalds’. Fuelled by McFlurrys and Big Macs, they are ones to watch!

Next up is the news that Mike, our lead designer, has finally popped the question to his lovely lady Cheryl! The ladies in the office have been swooning around him, following his rom-com inspired efforts and proposal story! I won’t completely spill the beans, but let’s just say that it was the stuff that Hugh Grant movies are mad of, and he epitomises the words of Shaggy in his track “Mr Boombastic” of 1995 – he’s “Mr. Ro, Ro, Romantic!” Now I know that having read that you’ll have the song in your head, so go ahead – indulge!

In The News

Pandas & Buddy Holly, Ferraris & Tablets – Oh & Cake!

Pinch, Punch, first day of the month – make a wish! September is over and October us upon us – rejoice in the knowledge that it’s about to get colder! Don’t worry though, between dabs.com and Dunc’s Deals we’ll keep you warm this winter with new products and deals right the way up to Christmas!

The end of September was a busy one in the dabs offices with the inevitable madness of month-end mixed with holidays and sickness taking its toll! The Marketing team – now rejoined by Michelle, back from the Dominican Republic – were flat out working with all the Product Managers ensuring the month was ended on a high! To celebrate a successful September at dabs we are having a Dress-Down Friday and enjoying Buffet style delights such as chocolate, cake, cocktail sausages and crisps! This cake has been made by our very own master-baker Caroline in the Marketing team and is a Bobby Dazzler! Check it out to the right!

Apologies to those of you who emailed in over the weekend, as well as the Multiplay Hardware Forum users who had to wait until Tuesday for replies to things. I took Monday out of the office to head down to Silverstone at the invitation of Asus, for a conference and an afternoon on the track! The photo to the right is me in the Ferrari 360 Moderna – which was immense! Unbelievably the stuff of boy’s dreams – the Aston Martin Vantage V8 – that I got to grips with later in the day was hugely disappointing! Thanks to the guys at Asus – Mike, Ian, Emma and Jon for sorting out the day!

If the opening gambit of the blog this week is confusing you, allow me to explain! “Never Say No To Panda” relates to the undeniable link between Pandas, Milk and Buddy Holly. Still confused? If you haven’t yet seen the Panda Milk adverts you are in for a treat! The Egyptian dairy manufacturer has released a string of adverts this year that show that if you say no to Panda products a Panda will raise hell! The emotionless Panda rocks up accompanied by the haunting and melodic Buddy Holly “True Love Ways” – random but funny. Check it out!

The lines are closed, the votes have been counted and verified and I can announce that…I will have to eat that insane gut-busting 5,000 calorie fry-up and film it. Brilliant. Good news is I will get a cake for dessert from Michelle, the Marketing Manager, if I can polish it off within the hour. I guess its true what they say, I really can’t have my cake and eat it too!

With the iPad about to go on full general sale in all stores and online in the coming weeks after months of Apple red-tape restrictions around selling – the tablet race is sure to heat up! The Samsung Galaxy Tab, BlackBerry Playbook and iPad were put head to head by TechRadar this week and all three have their merits – the choice for us as consumers will come down to price and availability in the lead up to Christmas. With the Playbook looking at a 2011 launch it looks like the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab now confirmed for November 1st- will vie for your attention. With that said, we made the Galaxy Tab live for pre-order yesterday – check the full spec, see images and place your order today!

In related tablet news last week, a Huawei S7 sample rolled into the dabs office, and our resident techno-junkie Matt has had his mitts all over it  – testing it to destruction. Look out for more news on that 7” little beauty on the blog soon!

Thanks to those of you that have already cast your vote for next month’s Dabs Diamond Awards ceremony. The annual event – which takes place in Manchester next month – celebrates your favourite manufacturers of computing, components and the latest technology. Keep your votes coming in, you have another week!

Last week AMD released a handful of new processors to the market, three new Athlon II models – X2, X3 and X4 as well as two additions to the Phenom II range; an X2 560 3.3GHz Black Edition and the X6 1075T 3.0GHz. Prices start from under £65 and can be seen here.

For those of you that want to take a step up from on board motherboard sound, then we suggest taking a look at the low-cost yet feature packed Asus Xonar DG PCI 5.1 Audio Card available now for less than £30.

If you need lots of storage on the go then the soon to be released LaCie 1TB Rikiki USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive should be on your radar, the acclaimed “World’s Smallest USB 3.0 Mobile Drive” is made of resistant aluminium and packs 1TB of storage in a tiny size. For under £110 we suggest you get your orders on today to secure launch stock for mid October!

Finally the new range of XFX PSU’s are now available for pre-order. The new Pro-Series Wired Power Supplies with EasyRail Technology, 80Plus Bronze efficiency and a Five Year Warranty are due into stock later this month. Take a look at the 650, 750 and 850 Watt options and select yours today.

The £2,000 Free Game Download giveaway has officially ended but for you guys I am going to ensure that any claims done this week are honoured! Remember all you have to do is spend over £200 on Motherboards, ProcessorsGraphics Cards, Hard Drives and Memory on dabs.com and you can claim – last chance!

We should’ve called last month ‘Storage September’ as you guys were eating up all the deals across the board – internal, portable, desktop and NAS! We don’t expect October to show any signs of slowing down, as the deals are in and ready for you!

For this weeks Dunc’s Deals exclusives I am going to kick off with a NAS offer – the LG N2R1 2TB NAS with built-in DVDRW, already reduced by over £40 to £209.99 – that you can have for under £200 with this link.

External Hard Drives are perfect for storing your photos, music, videos and files quickly and securely and with the demands for more and more space increasing now is THE time to take advantage of 1TB and 2TB offers. The Seagate Expansion Desktop Drives are ideal with their two year warranties and ease of use – grab the 1TB for under £53, usual price £54.99 and the 2TB for under £85 with this link, usual price £89.99.

The Buffalo JustStore Desktop hard drives are perfect for those with limited desk space. Their book-end like format and their silent operation make these little beauties ideal for any home or small office environment. You can already bag the 1TB model for under £50 and this week only you can get the 2TB edition with an extra £5 off, usually £84.99, now under £80!

If you like to keep your media in your pocket then you need to get hold of the limited offer Buffalo 320GB MiniStation Lite, it has £10 off and can be picked up for less than £40!

Now before I forget – Memory Deals! See what I did there! Some of you have asked about why I haven’t featured any memory offers before – well its usually because everyone has hugely different taste and requirements in RAM, but nevertheless, here are two belters we have at dabs right now. The Corsair XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Kit is already under £75 but you guys can have it this week for less than £70!

If HyperX from Kingston is your bag – or if you are seeking Triple Channel – you NEED to snap this 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz Kit up TODAY. It is already at the unbelievable price of £104.98 but using this link only you can get it for less than 3 figures – just £99.99!

Finally, don’t forget the incredible price drops on the DriveStation Duo External Desktop hard drive deals we’ve brought in. 1TB under £90 and the 2TB under £120 mark.

Remember, keep spreading word about the blog offers and let me know about when you mention the blog online as you WILL bag yourself a freebie – a few of you on forums and the Steam Community have taken advantage this week – keep it up!

That’s it for Blog Number 12 – yes that’s right you’ve been reading these for three months already! I am about to tuck into slice of cake number two and make a well earned cup of Twinnings English Breakfast tea  (we ran out of Yorkshire Tea I’m afraid – the scandal)! Enjoy your weekends and ensure you check back next week – expect something VERY SPECIAL!

Final Thought: We’ve all messed up at work but don’t let it worry you because few people ever mess things up THIS badly! Publicity stunt or massive fail – you decide!

Influenza, Facebook, Diamond Awards & Deals!

“Facebook is down…U.S. climbs out of recession”

It’s now officially autumn! Yesterday saw us roll into the new season and brought us ever closer to the inevitability of winter, and of course, Christmas – which is now less than 100 days away! I love summer as much as the next person, but once the weather has turned and the nights start to draw in, I do look forward to the long winter nights and of course the optimistic hope of snow! With that festive and seasonal jibber-jabber out the way, let’s get onto the good stuff!

It’s been two weeks since we went live with the new blog format, and the interaction we’ve seen via comments, emails and the voting tools has increased considerably! In fact, the votes cast on last weeks poll looks set to ensure that I will have to tackle the gut-busting 5,000 calorie fry-up – with over 60 votes cast and 70% in favour of the video challenge. Unless we see a drastic turnaround in public opinion, expect me to give it a go in the next week or so!

It’s been another interesting week in the dabs offices. Staff shortages have been rife – with the year’s first cases of Flu taking some people down for a few days, and Sam – our Social Media Guru – swanning off around Eastern Europe. So it’s been all hands to the pump to ensure the dabs.com site is still packed with the latest deals and offers! Matt, Mike and Michelle now known as “The 3 Marketeers”, have ensured that’s all the emails as well as other online and offline marketing has been covered; while the product management team have been delivering deals ready for the build up to the end of the month!

This week is your last chance to be the extra cog in the well-oiled dabs.com marketing team machine! We are giving you the next few days to pitch in ideas to help name our blog via the Facebook discussion page. Don’t forget the winning entry will bag a £350 Sonos Zoneplayer S5. Easy as peas!

Speaking of Facebook – and referencing this week’s blog header – who experienced the Facebook downtime yesterday? I’m disappointed in Zuckerberg to be honest – in the same day he’s announced as being more minted than the man we all love to hate (Steve Jobs), he forgets to pay his server bill! No matter what happened over at FB HQ, Twitter went ab-sol-utely MENTAL! Every 10 seconds the term “facebook” was being mentioned over 75,000 times! I watched some of hilarious tweeting unfold, and picked out a few of my favourite tweets about the outage that rocked the modern world…drumroll please!

1)      BREAKING NEWS: Facebook is down. Worker productivity rises. U.S. climbs out of recession.

2)      @al-Qaida: #facebook is down. Not sure if we did that, but we should claim credit anyway. Hitting the infidels where it hurts, etc.

3)      Facebook is down which means 9 months from today, many children will born.

4)      Facebook still down. Farmville animals resorting to cannibalism. Farmville players resorting to evaluation of their own lives.

5)      This just in: Twitter has graciously donated an emergency shipment of fail whales to Facebook.

6)      Facebook users are roaming the streets in tears, shoving photos of themselves in people’s faces and screaming ‘DO YOU LIKE THIS? DO YOU??’

7)      Facebook is down? I need to post a status update about this. Oh, wait…

8)      I keep poking Facebook, but it just lies there.

Facebook is live again now – panic over.

In The News

Last week we brought you the news of the new IE9 browser BETA and its promising early reviews. Since then I’ve given it a little go, and I have to agree, it is a vast improvement – but I am gonna stick with Firefox and Chrome for now…not to say I wont be tempted when the final version lands!

This week saw the launch of the long awaited Components @ TechRadar section! If you haven’t already seen it, its dabs-tastic – as a result of our partnership with the guys over there. If you’re not familiar, you need to get involved, as TechRadar have news and reviews from across the technology arena. We think that their move into having this  specific Components @ TechRadar section can only be good news for dabs and customers alike.

Finally, in dabs news, we have just launched the voting form for next month’s Dabs Diamond Awards ceremony. The annual event – which takes place in Manchester next month – celebrates your favourite manufacturers of computing, components and the latest technology. We need you to vote for your winning brands in each of the following categories. The winners will be announced on the evening and online. The first two years award show videos can be seen on our YouTube Channel.

Check out the promotion page for more details.

DING DONG DEALS! (Sponsored by Leslie Phillips*)

In the last edition we gave you the chance to get £10 off and “Win A Dualie” if you purchase the Buffalo 1TB (2 x 500GB) LinkStation Duo before the end of September. That offer still stands until September 30th, and as well as automatically going into the draw, you can also still get £10 off the product by using the voucher BUFFNAS754 at checkout!

While on the subject of Buffalo, I also want to draw your attention to the two DriveStation Duo External Desktop hard drive deals we’ve brought in this week. The 1TB is now under £90 and the 2TB creeps under the £120 mark. These drives are feature-packed and won’t be around for long at these prices!

For those after external storage there hasn’t been a better time to snap up this Seagate 2TB Expansion desktop with this Dunc’s Deal special of £5 off – now just £84.98 with this link. If NAS is more your bag, then the LaCie 1TB Network Space (usually £89.99) can be yours with £5 off by using this link. Not only that but we have just taken stock of the LG N2R1 2TB NAS With built-in DVDRW, the new price is £209.99 – which is over £40 off already – but Dunc’s Deals customers can use this link to get an extra tenner off! DING DONG!

Take advantage of these exclusive offers while you can – spread the word about the blog offers and let me know about when you mention the blog online as you WILL bag yourself a freebie!

Well another blog comes to its inevitable conclusion – not just because I’ve said enough but because we are heading to Wetherspoons for lunch! It’s dress down day again and the Burger and Beer combo down at Westhoughton’s own Robert Shaw ‘Spoons can’t be ignored! Those in the know will realise we named our ‘Spoons after our most famous export – he appeared in loads of films including 1975’s Jaws! School yourself!

That’s it, I’m heading off to chat to the Multiplay guys over on their forum this afternoon, where the chat has been top banana this week – from Graphics to 3D to SSD with plenty of banter and looking after them with some exclusives! Take a look at the Multiplay Hardware section sponsored by Dabs. Drop your comments, enjoy your weekend and check back next week for more!

*not really – just love the catchphrase

Gingerbread & Fry-ups, Stephen Fry & 3D, United at last!

“Bless The Bottoms of Technology!”

According to my trusty calendar it’s been 10 weeks since I first started the Dunc’s Deal updates! In less than three months you guys, and girls, have embraced the Dunc and taken advantage of plenty of free offers and exclusive deals – thank you for all your support!

Now we’ve moved the updates to the all-new dabs blog, we would love to chat to you all more, and hear your wants and needs.  Forgive me if I sound like a cliché, but we’ve made it as simple and easy to get in touch and are now more accessible than ever! Whether you contact us via the blog, Facebook, Twitter or email;  you can rest assured, wherever possible, we WILL come back to you! On that note, I asked last week for suggestions on promotions you’d like to see for the Intel 40GB SSD and a Seagate GoFlex 1TB NAS box that are sat on my desk – submissions have been a bit light so exercise your democratic right, and have your say this week!

So what’s been happening in the dabs offices this week I hear you ask! No cheese, lager, cookies or biscuits to report this week – this week we have been mostly eating….Grasmere Gingerbread! Oh yes, the world famous Gingerbread – adored by Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Renée Zellweger and knicker- making Corrie actor Antony Cotton. Having been in Grasmere at the weekend, we brought a batch back, which went down a storm! If you haven’t had some then you’re missing out – get yourself to Grasmere (or their website!)

We’ve also had a busy week preparing our TV Bonanza – which is live now with some fantastic offers across a range of tellyboxes. ‘Tis the season of upgrading and investing in TV don’t ya know – so take advantage before September 24th!

Last week when we launched the Dabs Blog, we made you all honorary members of the gifted and talented (they told me to write that!) dabs.com marketing team, by inviting you to pitch in and help name our blog! The Facebook discussion page has seen lots of activity, and the suggestions have been keeping us entertained this week! We’ve seen the good, the bad, and the downright ugly, so get inspired and keep the ideas coming thick and fast! Get involved today and you’re in with a chance to win the £350 Sonos Zoneplayer S5 if you pick the winning name!

While on the subject of TV, Stephen Fry has unveiled his guide to Sky 3D which launches on October 1st in the UK. Now I’m an avid Sky HD viewer, but 3D hasn’t captured me just yet. Stephen Fry, however, always commands attention – especially when in this video he argues that he invented 3D-TV (as well as the peep-hole for the modern-day under-pant) and tells a bloke from Sky he is an imbecile before biting him – go Fry!

Also in the news this week was the launch of the Beta of the new IE9 browser – with many calling it “ie-mazing.” Now I’m a Firefox chap through and through, but the reports so far say that Microsoft has pulled its socks up. I’ll be checking it this weekend and will report back – drop your thoughts on your browser of choice as a comment below.

As I mentioned last week, 5am on Monday was to be a big day in the world of graphics cards – and it didn’t disappoint! Yes, the NVIDIA GTS 450 was finally launched! Squaring up directly against the ATI Radeon 5770 cards, it has received mixed reviews, but it certainly packs performance at a great price point – check out our full range of cards starting at £94.98

Blog regulars will already have spotted that we have teamed up with the EA Store this week to giveaway £2,000 worth of Game Downloads – all you have to do is spend over £200 on Motherboards, ProcessorsGraphics Cards, Hard Drives and Memory on dabs.com and you can claim – simples!

New product wise, it’s been a good week for LaCie! The new Wireless Space 1TB and 2TB NAS products are available for pre-order on dabs right now and Sam, our Social Media Guru – sorry Sam, updated the blog with this fantastic product news page about them! Stock is expected later this month. Not only that, but we just took stock of the new USB 3.0 versions of the 1TB Minimus and the 500GB Rikiki! LaCie product names always keep us amused in the office, keep it up LaCie!

Finally, we got the new Zotac Z-Box Mini-PC with BluRay – both complete and barebone versions – live on dabs ready for pre-orders. Stock is due later this month – place your orders today!

Last week’s NASTRAVAGANZA went down a storm both on Dunc’s Deals and the email we sent out, so today I’ve put together a fresh variety of special offers for you to take advantage of!

Firstly we’ve teamed up with Buffalo to give you the chance to get £10 off and “Win A Dualie” – now despite its name this doesn’t win you Ali-G’s missus – but it could win you the Buffalo 500GB Dualie for iPhone and iPod! Between September 16th and September 30th 2010 if you purchase the Buffalo 1TB (2 x 500GB) LinkStation Duo NAS from dabs, you automatically go into a draw to win. Dunc’s Deal customers also get first dibs on a £10 voucher off the NAS product! Simply enter BUFFNAS754 at checkout!

Next up is the Plextor External Slim Top-loading Blu-Ray player. Currently £79.99 on dabs, but we have a £10 off voucher available on it this week – simply use PLEX751 at checkout to deduct £10 from the price!

We’ve also taken more stock of the Buffalo 500GB JustStore Portable Hard Drive this week, and instead of paying £47.99, you can use this link to snap it up for under £45!

For those of you who have always craved Crossfire, let me help you get it for less! We already dropped the price by £15 this week to £249.99, but for one week only, you guys can get an extra £10 off! Use this link to get the XFX ATI Radeon 5770 HD 1GB Bundle with Dirt2, plus £10 DabsPlay Voucher for just £239.99!

Finally this week, take advantage of £10 off the Seagate 2TB FreeAgent® GoFlex™ Home NAS – just £129.99 with this link.

Snap up these offers while you can, and spread the word about the blog offers! If you post any Dunc’s Deals mentions elsewhere on the web, send me a link and you might bag yourself a freebie!

Mario has been in the news twice this week – the Nintendo version celebrates his 25th Anniversary and the lesser-known Bolton version, our very own Mario Frappola, has had his gut-busting 5,000 calorie ‘Ultimate Breakfast’ declared the biggest full English breakfast in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records! The £10 masterpiece packs 10 eggs, 10 sausages, 10 rashers of bacon, 10 slices of toast, five black pudding slices, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans – and its free if you can polish it off in under 20 minutes!

Unluckily for me, Mario’s achievement has sparked an insurmountable level of peer pressure in the dabs.com HQ and I have agreed (or technically been bullied into submission) to take on Mario’s ‘Ultimate Breakfast’! So I struck a deal – if my loyal Dunc’s Deals readers comment on the blog this week, and show support for the cause, I will step up to the plate (the big, greasy, bacon-filled plate) and take on the ‘Ultimate Breakfast’! What’s more, we’ll film it for your sick and twisted pleasure! So have your say, should I bust a gut in the name of Dunc’s Deals…you decide!

As with all good things, this week’s blog must come to an end, and I got to get back to chasing the deals – drop your comments, enjoy your weekend and check back next week for more!

Beer, The Blitz, Win a Sonos & Watermelons to the face!

“Get in it to win it! The Dabs Blog Name Game!”

The headline news 70 years ago was that of the commencement of the Blitz… this week we saw Wayne Rooney’s indiscretions and the Queen Vic burning down – oh how far we’ve come! Seriously though, the top 20 Google searches this week are littered with prostitute names and tabloid titles – is that how far we’ve come in seven decades?! I just realised, I sound like my Dad…!

Speaking of Google what do you all make of Google Instant? Personally I don’t like it. Its distracting and unnecessary – it claims to “save 2-5 seconds per search” – I can help you do that without months of development and millions of dollars – T…Y…P…E……Q…U…I…C…K…E…R!

Slap me, I’m ranting!

No cheese-fest to report this week, although we have had some cookies and biscuits. I’m also currently looking at a four-pack of Cobra that I intend to neck this weekend (thanks to Viv for getting me these!)

Nestled amongst my cookies and beer, you can see I also have an Intel 40GB SSD and a Seagate GoFlex 1TB NAS box – both for promotions. I’m not sure what to do with them yet, so drop your comments at the bottom of here or via ‘Speak To Dunc’, and maybe I’ll use one of your suggestions!

As you can see, this edition is the first to be hosted on the new home of Dunc’s Deals and the Social Epicentre of dabs.com, the Dabs Blog! Now as we know you’ll agree, the name is bobbins. Sure, it does exactly what it says on the tin – but at dabs, we like to stand out. As the blog is there for the readers, we want YOU to decide a name! That’s right, we’re giving you FULL artistic license and creative freedom to name the blog – we don’t want you to be constrained by convention or rules! If you have an idea, we want to hear it! The ways to communicate your ideas are in any of the following formats:

So there we have it, unless you have a necessity to send us your suggestion via carrier pigeon, there are no excuses not to get in touch and give us your feedback and ideas. As if the honour and public adoration of successfully naming our blog isn’t enough, we have a £350 Sonos Zoneplayer S5 for the winner! Get involved now!

One of the main reasons for entering the blogosphere is to aid your interaction with me and the team here at dabs – we really want your comments, suggestions, ideas and feedback so we can better assist you in either making a purchase, or getting the best from dabs.com as a visitor. So we hope you enjoy the blog, and take opportunity to get in touch with us.

In The News!

After last week’s piece by TechRadar on ‘How To Buy The Right CPU’, the guys have put together a great follow-up to showcase 8 of the Best AM3 motherboards – have a butchers, and then take a look at our AM3 Motherboard page to select yours!

Its been another busy week for the ‘Speak To Dunc’ inbox – more PC spec’ing, game giveaways and some Jokes about Cheese… let me share them! Dave sent in, “What type of cheese is made backwards?” EDAM! With the second coming from Neil, who works here, “What cheese do you use to hide a horse?” Mascarpone! Impressive cheese comedy there from Dave and Neil, but some people seem to take cheese jokes to another level…check this Twitter page out.

Once again keep in touch as you never know what you will receive just for getting in touch, I really want to hear from you!

Product News!

Are you all excited for 5am on Monday? Typically I would expect to hear a resounding ‘no’, but this Monday morning is no ordinary Monday morning… I’m not officially allowed to say what it is but I’m sure many of you already know! I can’t say any more, other than its NVIDIA-related, and they will be available from Monday – literally, if I say anything else Richard, Chris and the rest of CLAN NVIDIA will drag me away screaming! Check back Monday!

Once again, keep taking advantage of the Asus Intel and AMD Self-Build bundles. For the next two weeks, if you pick up the Asus Intel Value Bundle for £144.99, I will send you an 8GB Kingston DataTraveler 100 – worth over £14!

Keep en eye out next week for a brand new Intel Processor and Motherboard promotion around R.U.S.E. going live on dabs.com. I will update the blog when its ready! In the meantime, keep your claims coming in for the Intel X25-M Solid State Drives and Ubisoft free game giveaway, as well as the NVIDIA Mafia II game downloads.

What Did You Do When You Were Nine?

Before I shoot off for another week, here are a few things that caught my eye over the past seven days.

As the youngest child in the Will Smith household it must be hard to stand out – Mum and Dad are household names across the globe, your older brother is now following in Dad’s footsteps in Hollywood – what has youngest daughter Willow gone and done? Signed a record deal with Jay-Z! She’s NINE! I don’t even think I could sign my name at nine, let alone sign a record deal!

There was also “Skyscraper Man” who has scaled more huge buildings than I’ve climbed ladders, did the San Francisco Millennium Tower this week – only to get himself arrested! Don’t try this at home!

Finally, as I sign off for another week, I want to leave you with this very important message – proceed with caution when playing with watermelons and catapults!

Remember to drop your thoughts below and enjoy your weekend!
