Free Game Friday: Win Call of Duty Modern: Warfare 2

When I say “Friday”, what’s the first thing you think about? The weekend? Beers at the local perhaps? No, of course you don’t. Friday means one thing to everyone these days; Free Game Friday. So to give us all something to look forward to, we’ll be running another free game competition this week, so read on to find out how you can enter.

This is definitely not the first time I’ve said it and I very much doubt it will be the last time, but first person shooters are pretty darn popular. Arguably one of the most highly regarded series of the new breed of FPSs is Call of Duty. I’ve written several times about the impact this series has had on me, so I thought that it’s about time we included it in #FGF.

It’s come a long way, as you would expect of such a popular title, so much so that it has warranted being the subject of the first head-to-head modern vs. classic blog post. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the sixth instalment of the Call of Duty series continuing the storyline of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It didn’t win the battle against its classic counterpart but that’s not because it isn’t a great game. In fact I’d have to say that I enjoyed Modern Warfare 2 more than the other modern war titles of the CoD franchise. For this reason, we’ll be giving away a copy of the game to one winner of this week’s competition.
Clearly we can’t just throw this game out into the baying masses, so I’ve devised a cunning method in which to award a suitable candidate with such a desirable prize. If you fancy your chances then here’s what you need to do. As always with Free Game Friday, you have two chances to enter. For your first entry, simply retweet the following post on Twitter: Tweet this

For the second entry, leave a comment on this post to the following question:
We’ve seen this series go from past battlefields to contemporary settings and throughout the gameplay has remained intense. The discreet yet integral accompaniment to all this has been the backdrop of various environments staging the changing scenarios. So for this week’s question, I’d ask you to consider which era, period or war would most befit the next instalment of this engrossing series? It would need to be something immersive and compelling but I’m happy to take suggestions from any time period past, present or even future.

Let me know what you think, it’d be great to see what you guys come up with as I sure you all will have an opinion.

My favourite weapon has to be the Lancer in Gears of War – fractionally underpowered but quick firing and accurate assault rifle with an amazing chainsaw for gratifying and gruesome close encounter mele!

    • gav

If we can include tanks then the Scorpion Tank in Halo 3, if we can’t include tanks the best weapon has to be the BFG10k from Quake II, it could turn an entire room of Strogg into ketchup with one shot.

Quakes Railgun as the name alone is cool, and its power is legendary

O man so many to choose from. I would have to say my favorite weapon has got to be the Minigun. It’s had so many instances in so many games. It’s great at just mowing down players are providing cover support. A side note though, I love the Lancer from Gears of War because it seems doable in the real world. Why can’t we but a Chainsaw at the end of a Assault Rifle? Somebody in the military HAS to be working on that.

      • Darklurkr23

        Ah yes @Darklurkr23

    • Ross W

In my opinion, the best weapon of all time is the minigun used by Bill Duke (et al) in Predator – just love the evocative sound of it munching up the jungle. Ah, a sound of nostalgia.

I think my fave of all time has to be the BFG from Doom “When you absolutely positively have to fill everybody in the room” the BFG does just the job

    • Marv

There’s something satisfying about projectile guns in games that pin the enemy to the wall. Guns such as the spear gun in Aliens vs Predator, the nailgun in Fear, the stakegun in Painkiller etc etc.

Never fails to give me a grin.

    • Awesomeist

For me, the best weapon in any game ever has to be the Airzooka in Just Cause 2. I love nothing more than blasting my enemies with an air-rocket, then propelling them in to hills and buildings. Makes me feel mighty and powerful!

      • Awesomeist

Forgot to leave my twitter details! @Awesomeist.

my fave game and weapon was bf 2142 and krylov fa-37 ar/pac- got thousands of kills with this baby

    • Hasnain

Just Cause 2: The grappling hook is one of the best ‘weapons’ I’ve seen in a game.. You can use it to climb/ steal vehicles, tether objects/ people to vehicles and drive away, pull enemy soldiers towards you and even melee attacks.

    • darth_careful

The stakegun in Painkiller. Because the only good Evil Monk is an Evil Monk that’s been impaled on the nearest wall :-)

    • MerseyMal
