View Full Version : how to overclock this
hi i am using the Asus AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 DDR3 ATX mobo with an AMD Phenom II X4 850 3.3GHz AM3 95W processor. i have the Antec Kuhler H20 620 Water Cooler on it. i want to know how to overclock this to the max that i can.
How would i be able to do this?
Can i ask what is your experience of overclocking is
has it been third party progs or are u able and confident to mess around in the bios
sorry to be so curt but we need to know ur knowledge before we can help
well this is going to be my first overclock as this is my first, gaming rig. i know its not the best choice of processor but i was on a budget
I'm guessing that, since you have the 95W version of the 850, it is not a Black Edition. The BE has an easier overclocking method which involves increasing the CPU multiplier in BIOS. Non-BE editions are rather more fiddly but there is no reason why you wouldn't get similar results. There is a pretty good overview here (http://www.overclock.net/amd-general/525113-phenom-ii-overclocking-guide.html). Have a read and see what you think. Your cooling will be fine but best to double check what PSU you have. The relevant section is "Reference Clock Overclocking".
DMS is quite right that the non BE are a bit fiddly, however just take your time reading through materials(the guide DMS linked is very thorough) so you have a firm grasp of what it is your actually doing to the CPU, I found that helped before I jumped into overclocking my kit. Also if you want to know the exact figures for your overclock go here http://www.extreme.outervision.com/tools.jsp its a fairly useful tool
ok thanks guys
if it fails, im blaming you too lol.
