View Full Version : Harddrive price
Do Dabs have any indication when the harddrive prices will be somewhat back to normality as I do need to buy a 2 terabyte hdd :)
I'm assuming it won't be soon. Companies are going to want to make a bit more money off their sales to recoup the loss of time, salary (?) and parts before prices will go back to what they were.
Only positive thing will be competition bringing the prices back down.
Production could be affected for 6 months due to the floods. Add to that the extra time for HDDs to get flowing back to market properly. So maybe middle of next year but that might be a little optomistic.
Personally I think it's going to be quite some time yet. I believe they are ramping up production elsewhere and they have sent in divers to see if they can resurrect production equipment. When they do get up and running again the price will remain high, in order to recoup the losses, on top of that, it's likely that the OEMS will be the top priority. I would expect to see very high prices for a considerable time to come, probably at least a year. While this may be a bit of an inconvenience, it's nothing like the inconvenience of those people directly effected. There are tens of thousands of them whom have no job at the moment and may not have for quite a while. I think they have probably more to worry about than you getting a cheap hard drive ;)
