View Full Version : Need advice for PSU
I've recently bought this http://www.dabs.com/products/gigabyte-pre-assembled-ultimate-bundle--inc-z77-hd3--intel-core-i7-3770k---8gb-vengeance-lp-black--8HJG.html
and when I received it didn't actually realize my current PSU would not support it, I was wondering what would be best type of PSU to get, I also have a Gigabyte Geforce GTS 450 graphics card.
The total power usage of the machine would be about 380w so I would go for a 500-600w PSU giving you some overhead for upgrading. Any modern PSU will work with that setup but I would suggest getting a branded PSU (OCZ, Corsair, Antec, Silverstone) my personal choice would be this (http://www.dabs.com/products/antec-550w-basiq-vp550p-atx-psu-7TD8.html?src=3), it is a quality brand and a good price.
One thing which is often forgotten is the USB devices one might want to attach. Add about 10 Watt for each one.
I used to leave it out but now when i use a PSU calc I tend to work it out for 10 USB devices, 4 HDD's, 2 opticals, and 4 sticks of RAM therefore futureproof, and depending on the systems use I may add in 2 or 3 way sli. Not had to work it out for my system for a long time though I have a Silverstone PSU 850w individually braided cables (really well done and sold by silverstone for about 75% less cost than the corsair cables), and it's voltages are perfect Multimeter has it at 12.05v, 5.04v, 3.34v and fully modular.
Thnx a lot for the advice, I have 6 USBs, 1HDD and I am not planning to add any more sli cards, I'll give that Antec Psu a try.
