View Full Version : What's better Boxee or Apple TV?
I currently watch TV that I have missed on my laptop using iPlayer etc but I'd like to be able to watch it on TV. Would a Boxee Box let me do this? What kind of TV shows are available? Is Apple TV any better? I'm not looking forward to spend a fortune until I know it's something that I'll use.
Boxee Box is a great device for this purpose, although there is currently an issue with the iPlayer application on Boxee, and would give you access to exactly the same iPlayer shows that you currently have. Apple TV does not have an iPlayer app at the moment.
The AppleTV is locked down, so expect to need to jailbreak it to be able to do anything particularly useful with it. I would go with Boxee.
Boxee rocks - get it bought!
the other option, if youre just after streaming from iPlayer, is to get an internet connected TV, like the Samsung series 6.
Quite more expensive than an Apple TV, but its one less wire :D
Also, doesnt apple tv allow you to stream whats happening on your laptop to the TV as a monitor? So you could use iplayer in your browser and put it up on the TV?
Could be wrong though...
I've just bought a Samsung 6 series D6530, the iPlayer interface looks a bit clunky, but once your in a program the picture quality is stunning, the BBC HD streams are better than Freeview HD.
I hear iPlayer on Boxee has been disabled by the BBC as it's not official so no idea when it'll be back.
I dont own it, but if you have other Apple devices id say go for the Apple TV as I've seen it in practice and its pretty good.
