Help selecting GFX card
Need some help selecting a gfx card for my pc.
Current spec is as follows.
Mobo:- Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
CPU :- Core i7-2600 3.40GHz S1155 8MB
8GB Vengeance DDR3 1866MHz
OS:- Windows 7 Home Premium
I'm looking for the best gfx card for sub £200.
Am I right in thinking that because the CPU is a 2600 I can only use PCie 2.0 x16
What would happen if I installed a PCie 3.0 gfx card?
Thanks in advance.
PCI-e 3.0 card will slot into a PCI-e 2.0 without any issues and for the sub £200 cards there will be no difference in performance, PCI-e 3.0 only allows more bandwidth but 2.0 has enough for all but the top end current generation cards.
This might be best for your specs and under budget by £25. Its the overclocked edition making the most of your card and comes with Assassins Creed 3. If you do get it give Dunc an email duncsdeals(at)dabs(dot)com for the game.
Thanks for the advice and recommendations. Just for a little clarity on my part before I order...
My mobo states that it will only run PCie 3.0x16 if I have a 22nm CPU. My CPU is 32nm therefore it will only run Pcie 2.0x16.
I can install a 3.0x16 gfx card and it will work but will most likely not run at its optimum.
Is that correct?
Yes all PCI-e 3.0 cards will work in a PCI-e 2.0 slot and the only ones that will run slower are the Nvidia 680 690, and the ATI 7970 and 7990.
