    Apples OSX Lion

I decided to buy OSX Lion for my PC, and honestly I can't see why so many Mac users got so excited over an operating system that is little more than a tweak to it's predecessor Snow Leopard, which was little more than a tweak to Leopard and so on back through the various "tweaks" of OSX.

I've been playing about with it since yesterday trying to get a good feel for it. It's definitely better than Snow Leopard in looks and feel. It's still ugly as f***, but just not quite as fugly. Was it worth the £21, sort of. Would it be worth paying the money for a Mac to get it...... not on your effing nellie, not even a Mac Mini.

The Mac app store is filled with oooohhhs & aaaahhhs and best ever comments. If I could be bothered leaving one it would be... "is this it". In my opinion these are not "new versions", they are service packs... a £21 service pack. So when I say it was sort of worth the £21 it was not that the OS itself was worth the £21 but that it was certainly worth NOT having to buy a Mac to use it.

I think it's overcompensation because he loves Macs and owns several but is too embarrassed to admit it

Never in a million years. I would never be so confused as to pay over £1500 for something I could do on a PC with more power and for half as much. I can also assure you that it's also not because (and this is one the scopelocked fanbois like to use) I'm only hating because I can't afford one.

I'm not saying it sucks as an OS because it's actually a very capable OS that has some really nice features that I like. It's just that it p*sses me off that it's regarded as a beautiful looking OS and sorry but it's just not. I also really dislike the global menu bar. I don't know why, I just really hate it.

To be fair (and it pains me to say this because i hate apple and everything they do) macs achieve what they set out to do - theyre very easy to set up and use. They're kinda like the computing equivilant of a wii - bringing computing to people who wouldnt get into it otherwise.

I would say that about a PC as well and Windows 7 has brought even more simplicity to the setup and use. Buzz phrases like "it just works" are ridiculous. My PC "just works" but I don't feel the need to harp on about it.

The reason Apple can keep things simple is because they are primarily a hardware company who only need to support a few devices. Microsoft are primarily a software company who are required to support tens of thousands of devices, and in my opinion do a pretty good job of it.

This is the perfect answer in Apple -v- Microsoft! I would love to own a mac for the style and simplicity but its to damn expensive and not worth what you get for it more than happy to build my own for half the price.

Well I don't own a Mac and to be honest installing OSX on my PC is not that much more difficult than installing Windows. It was even pretty easy installing it on my Toshiba Laptop... a Toshbook Pro so to speak. Once it's on my PC it's simply a matter of running it as any other Mac user would. As for style, whats stylish about owning the same looking aluminium box as every other Mac owner that bought one as well. Theres no individuality, it's a world of clone drones in which you are buying someone else's vision of style (probably Steve's).

My 17 year old continually flirts with the idea of selling his laptop and getting a Macbook or whatever. For him - as with everything else he does - it is all about style over substance. I can understand that conformity and being convinced that this is the latest must have gadget is the norm for a teenager (thankfully, he always listens to reason in the end, even if he won't admit it) but why adults choose the flashy latest con from Stevie is beyond me.
