    First boot process and testing

    Alright all?

Wondering if anyone can inform me as to wether or not there is a set-up/installation process to follow or if it's a case of putting everything together, holding your breath and pressing the on button?

I'm assuming on first boot that maybe the BIOS starts up automatically? I try not to touch BIOS as it's slightly terrifying for noobs!!

Can you literally just plumb it all in and that's it? Is it necessasry to test the mobo/cpu/RAM to see if they're working together ok, and if so - how the hell you do that?!

    Cheers all!

The only important thing is take your time trust major screw ups occur if you rush. First install the PSU then plug the power cord into the wall and the back of the PSU, don't turn on the plug at the wall though this way there is no power but the case is earthed.

Then install motherboard, CPU, Heatsink (may have to do heatsink and CPU before installing motherboard if you don't have space in your case to work to install the heatsink), then RAM, Graphics card then PSU motherboard cables. Plug in Keyboard and mouse and monitor then give it a test run make sure you get some life out of it and something on screen. Once you do HDD's ODD,s etc till it's complete..

CPU will also only fit in one way round, although one thing I found a little disconcerting when fitting the 2600K was the creaking noise it made when I pushed the lever down to lock it into place. If you have any problems, post here and you should get a reply pretty quickly and remember, the motherboard manual is your friend.

This all assumes of course that it isn't done yet since you posted three hours ago.

Creaking is better than a loose processor...

Cheers guys. No risk of anything being done before a reply as I don't have the bits yet! Just trying to get things straight in my head first as to the processes while I save the pennies.

Just remember to install the CPU and heatsink (or at least the heatsink rear bracket) before you mount the motherboard. you have to push fixings through from the rear of the motherboard.

Not on the retail stock CPU cooler. It just pushes locking pins through the holes from the front.

oh, that's nice, but didn't he order an aftermarket cooler?

[Edit] He didn't!, although he was thinking about it, in that case disregard my advice.

Probably true for a lot of it
