Companies utilise all social media channels nowdays. Twitter is the easiest and most far reaching of the main channels. It can take seconds to release information and then reach tens of thousands in the same time frame. So I can completely see why it was used.

The unfortunate part is that you were not able to access twitter to find out about it.

Completely agree, however in terms of the limit, whilst its only my word you have to go on, my purchase is going to four different family members. So rather than all four of us being happy customers, if there were a limit then none of us would be happy customers.

Maybe there should have been some claus that the devices could not be resold, that would stop people buying on mass for resale.

Guys, sorry some of you didnt know about it, we were waiting for word of the price down and even before we did the site was getting peppered. We did try and come on the forum to post it once we'd moved (as well as posting on the externals FB/Twitter) but by the time we could (as it was timing out) we'd sold out - sorry :/ People are slating us on FB/Twitter too but seem to fail to understand that 50,000 people all trying to add 500 units to a basket/proceed to checkout/access our backend systems is going to cause some stalls/delays/dissapointments - the demand and numbers of users was unprecedented!

In better news buy my Components & Storage deals and get free stuff

At the end of the day, Dabs are a company whose raison d'etre is to make money so from their point of view the quickest, easiest method of sale is the optimum solution. And rightly so. Come to think of it, by saying that the sale process should have been more fair I'm sounding far too much like a socialist than I would like . As to the happy customer point, from a retailer's point of view, it would be better to spread the happiness around a bit, so to speak , ie rather than concentrating four lots of happiness into one family group, it would be better to have four lots of happiness split out amongst four different family groups to maximise future customer potential.

I suspect that a not for resale clause might be a bit difficult to police .

And it's made worse buy other retailers not even listing it at new price just selling them on their own company ebay accounts, and another retailer saying they wont be chaning price till at least 12/10/2011

I had no idea that this was even happening at all, I have only just found out that Dabs lowered the price.

It is a little bit sickening knowing that many of the buyers bought several to turn a profit while I missed out, it would have been nice to have some kept back for those who showed an interest but I suppose Dabs cannot do that.

Hopefully someone else like LG will do something similar in the future.
