Samsung G3 Station 2TB USB Drive

This drive looks and feels the part but it really is not...

On the second one as the first one packed up after 3 weeks, this one may be going the same way ????

Installed and working ok up to a point. When the PC ( uising windows 7 pro) goes to sleep so does the drive (permanently) so the only way of restarting it is to either reboot or yank out the usb lead. This does not always work.

On trying to save a large file to the drive the PC locked up, on restart there was a message '' Windows was not able to enable this device '' when trying to enable the drive through the Device Manager (a code 22). Only by some research did I get the drive recognised.

As I sit here with no drive recognised again (and daring to save any files to it) there are thoughts of ending this charade by getting a refund.

Any others having the same problems ?

I have had the same problem with WD, seagate, and Hitachi externals seems fine for a few weeks then won't wake or suddenly disappears when playing a film. I think externals in general have issues, usually caused by poor quality power supplies, however you should also update your USB drivers if updates are available sometimes issues with communication can be the cause.

Similar experiences here. The cynical might reach the conclusion that less than honourable manufacturers use what prove to be their more problematic drives to make externals. My preference is to have a decent caddy and then populate with the HDD of your choice. At least then you know what's going in.

I had a point where the my drive wouldn't get recognised by the PC and this was caused by the drive not powering itself off when the PC was shut down. Next time you turn the PC off check to see if the external drive powers itself off, if it doesn't after a couple of minutes, turn it off manually. then when you restart it should turn back on and be recognised.

Just over 3 weeks into using the replacement drive and its already started playing up. I dare not trust keeping any data on this drive ...... My advice to anyone is to not to buy this poor drive.

The latest happening is the drive stops working even when the computer is not asleep, and this morning would not start up at all.... only the yanking of the USB lead out then in again started the drive (only for about 5 mins, then shuts down again).

Most unhappy and disappointed, how do I stand on getting a full refund and compensation for the hassle ?

Just an update on this drive... I was still getting problems with it, however, the drive inside is Samsung SATA. The drive was languishing in my bits box so I canabalised the casing and took the drive out, got rid of the USB electronics and fitted the drive into a spare bay on the desktop. The drive is now working fine with no problems, I can only assume the USB electronics was causing the problem.....

Now have a nice fast 2TB drive. I know I have invalidated the guarrantee, but what the heck I have a good working drive

    Merry Xmas All...

Yeah, I've even started considering buying a whole PC (exc monitor), ripping the HDD out and selling it without a HDD to recoup some of the difference.
