Saitek Cyborg Keyboard Not Recognised Under Windows 7 64 Bit

    Hi,

I just bought a Saitek Cyborg V.7 External Wired USB 2.0 Multimedia Programmable PC Keyboard from Dabs Outlet on eBay and I have not been able to get it to install properly under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I'm an experienced Windows/PC engineer and I reckon I've done most of the things I should, downloaded the latest drivers, surfed the net for similar problems (it doesn't seem an uncommon one) following through solutions without success, and various other things.

These days I kinda expect devices to install one helluva lot easier than this (after all I'm not using Linux) and it makes absolutely no sense to me that a company like Dabs would sell something that doesn't work on a variant of the most current production Windows OS.

In all honestly I don't think I can claim it is actually faulty as it does before Windows loads (the hardware seems to see it as a standard keyboard, it's just Windows that doesn't) so at best I can only claim that it doesn't seem fit for purpose.

But to the point ... has anyone got one of these? Have they had similar problems and know how to fix them? I really like the keyboard but it would be kinda nice if it worked under Win 7 64.

Have you downloaded and installed both the latest driver and latest software from the Saitek website. You should also check your BIOS settings make sure it is set to Keyboard controlled by OS (if it is this already try setting it to controlled by BIOS), only other suggestion is to install the drivers in windows Safe Mode by right clicking it and allowing the installer to run as administrator. If it doesn't work you can return it as faulty it is a keyboard designed and advertised with full compatibility with Windows 7, functions not working means it is faulty.

Yes I did (downloaded the latest) and I couldn't find any BIOS settings relating to the keyboard.

That said your safe reboot suggestion worked a treat and I am now using the keyboard happily ... so thanks very much for the help
