I am looking at a budget PC build, using existing Desktop PC case, HDD, OS and PSU; I assume that I can extract the old motherboard and plus in a new one.
The old PC is a Mesh Computers Ltd PC dating from 2006.
I have never built a PC before so I looked at one of the DABS pre-assembled kits, adding a graphics card:
Gigabyte Pre-Assembled Value Bundle (H61M-S2PV Motherboard, Intel PDC G630 & Corsair 4GB XMS3 DDR3)
Mfr#: GBT-INTEL-VALUE1 Quicklinx: 881TWS00
Asus GeForce GT 610 810MHz 2GB PCI-Express 2.0 HDMI Low Profile
Mfr#: GT610-SL-2GD3-L Quicklinx: 84NMWS00
My questions are:
1) Are the motherboard kit and the graphics card compatible?
2) Can the new motherboard simply plug into the old PC?
3) I intend to use Linux Ubuntu for the OS, is this OK?
Any advice appreciated, this is my first attempt to build.
