Thank you again for your help DMS. All the things I'm learning... I will go the self-build route now and will let you and Altair know how it goes and post a picture. Don't know how long that will be but fingers crossed within a next few weeks. :-)
Building a PC is not at all difficult so you will be absolutely fine. The main mistakes are made at the planning stage with non-compatible components being chosen. If you stick with the sample builds, they are all fine. Alternatively, feel free to post your proposed build back here for a quick check!
One last question, do you buy Windows with these self-built PC's or do you use Linux?
If you wish to use windows with your self build PC you can. check out Dabs' OEM software for anyone buying all the components together. however if you do want to use Linux that is also fine. I am running Windows 7 professional 64bit on my self build PC.
Chew the cold lumpy parts for bonus nutrition!
Hi ferretlove - I replied to your visitor message on my profile, before seeing this thread here:
Afraid I can't offer any advice, as I still can't get the computer to work. It was delivered over a month ago with a faulty graphics card that overheats if I use the computer, and I'm trying to negotiate with Dabs for a replacement. Once I have a working computer, I'd be able to help - but at this stage, I can't offer any advice, other than to say that it is incredibly small and I can't imagine it would have much room for additional components within. Even if you did, there is a strong risk of overheating, as the case doesn't allow for much airflow.
I can say one thing though - if you did go for this, and did change any items, you really would need to check the specs first: I bought a replacement graphics card in a moment of desperation, only to realise (when it arrived) that the fan would be too big to fit onto the board inside the case (I went for a low-profile bracket, but forgot to check the physical size of the fan attached)... when they say "small form factor" they really do mean it!!
And to DMS: I'm a She not a He :-p
