For most internet users, the DEVICE they use to get them connected to the internet - the modem/router - is simply a boring grey box with some flashing lights to indicate that things are working ok and that the internet connection is up and running. However, the Belkin N1 Vision, changes all that! Unlike most routers, it's a stylishly cool looking gadget which you won't want to hide under the desk or behind a bookshelf - it's the kind of gadget you'll want to actually display! Combined with sleek looks and the unique LCD display on the front, the Belkin N1 Vision is packed with functionality and amazingly easy to set up to boot.
The most striking feature of the Belkin N1 Vision modem router, is the front LCD display that provides you with a wealth of information about such things as your internet connection speed [in both directions], which other devices are connected to your network, your bandwidth usage - plus more. The screen on the Belkin N1 Vision can also be used as a menu system to configure the router and change the settings should you wish to do so. In fact you don't have to be a programmer to set up the N1 Vision. It comes with "CD-less" setup that will automatically detect other wireless devices and connect them.
The Belkin N1 Vision router has an impressive list of specifications - starting with the "MIMO" [Multiple Input Multiple Output] wireless interface and three distinctive aerials. N1 MIMO is a new specification for wireless standards which is an improvement of the current standard in terms of speed, range, reliability and efficiency. As far as speed is concerned, the Belkin N1 Vision can manage wireless speeds of up to 300Mbps - that's as fast as a regular 10/100 Ethernet cabled network. This kind of speed means that whatever you're transferring around the network there'll be no noticeable reduction in speed unlike some wireless systems, and copying files will not mean having to wait around for the transfer. With MIMO you won't worry about losing the signal up in the loft or in the garden either ... the signal will reach up to 1400 feet so you can surf wherever you like!
Another excellent feature of the N1 vision is its advanced security, there are several ways you can be sure that only users YOU ALLOW to access your network do so.
Network security is always a concern these days, so with N1 Vision keep unwelcome users such as "drive by snoopers" or even neighbours in the home opposite or flat below, off your network. The best and fastest way is to only allow certain machines or devices onto your network. As every device fitted with a network card has a unique identity, this can be done very easily with the N1 Vision using "MAC address filtering". And using this method will have no effect on the wireless speed. You simply key the MAC address of the "allowed" machines or devices, and they immediately have access to your network. The next best way to secure your wireless network with the N1 Vision is to use encryption. Whilst this is usually quite complicated on other routers, with the N1 Vision it's very easy. You can choose from WPA or WPA2-Personal encryption with 64 or 128 bit WEP which is the latest and hardest system to crack. The N1 Vision even has a smart "guest access" mode so you can let visitors to your home or office access your network and share your internet connection. Whichever way other users are connected, the LCD display on the N1 vision will show all connected devices and how much bandwidth they're using. You can even LIMIT the bandwidth allocated to each device - great if you're trying to download a large file off the internet and the connection seems slow because another person on the network is gaming on line and hogging the bandwidth!!!
If you prefer to connect to the router using regular cable, you get the benefit of "gigabit" Ethernet by simply plugging into one of the 4 gigabit network ports and get ultra rapid file transfer - great for large video files as it can transfer at a rate of 1Gbits per second.
The Belkin N1 Vision is available in 2 versions - if you have "regular" ADSL and need a modem and router combined, you choose the Belkin N1 Vision ADSL modem/router. If you connect to the internet using a Cable provider, you need the router only so choose the Belkin N1 vision Cable/DSL router.
