Scanning made easy - 10 easy to follow steps
Scanning made easy - 10 easy steps!
If you plan to edit scanned images, remember that investing a little time scanning the image properly will save you a lot of time later on. Follow these simple steps and tips every time you scan and you'll be guaranteed clean and crisp images every time!
1. Clean your scanner
Some scanners are extremely sensitive and are capable of picking out very minute details. So examine the surface of your scanner to ensure that it is clean and free from dirt, dust and fingerprints.
2. Position the image squarely
If your image is at an obscure angle when scanned then you will only have to adjust the image later using editing software. So spend a moment positioning the image properly and remember to lower the cover slowly so as not to cause the image to move.
3. Set the correct colour mode
Selecting the correct scanning mode will increase scanning speed and also improve colour reproduction. So if you're scanning a black and white photo, then scan in greyscale.
4. Choose the optimum resolution
The higher the scanning resolution the longer the image will take to scan. If you know what resolution your final image is going to be then you will get good results by choosing the same resolution on your scanner.
5. Preview the image
Previewing lets you check if the image you want to scan is positioned correctly.
6. Crop the image
The crop function lets you scan just a small part of the total scanning area. This is especially useful as it enables faster scanning.
7. Adjust brightness and contrast
Although you can adjust the brightness and contrast of your scanned image at a later stage using editing software, it is best to try and achieve the correct colour levels at the scanning stage. This will give you a better quality image to work with.
