Works - and Akasa were helpful too...

Installed on Windows 7 64-bit. Had same problem with Windows automatically "recognising" the device as an infra-red port. Akasa's own instructions show how to overcome this issue: http://www.akasa.com.tw/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Card%20Reader/Hub&type_sub=Card%20Reader&model=AK-ICR-05 http://www.akasa.com.tw/download/manual/Windows%207%20%2832%20and%2064bit%29%20installation%20manual.pdf If you follow Akasa's instructions, you can get the device working without disabling anything. There was previously an issue with driver/software links on Akasa's website but they quickly resolved this after I let them know about it. In general their technical support people were helpful and responsive, so if anyone finds any other issues I'm sure they won't struggle for long before overcoming them.

Good Card reader

This is a good product for the price. As someone else mentions, the bright blue LED at the front is rather annoying. However you can remove the front facia panel and cut it off quite easily!

Good - After some fiddling.

I originally bought one of these several months ago and like others, needed to jump through some hoops for my W7 machine to load the correct driver. However, I still had an issue when some card types (mostly SD) caused a BSoD when inserted into the reader. I found that Realtek had released an updated driver, which can be downloaded from: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false This seemed to cure my problems.

Very Useful

Very simply to install. Very useful, supporting all types of flash memory, so even if I change my camera, I do not need to get a new card reader. Useful SIM reader, for backing up mobile contacts. Software is simple, but does the job. Annoying it has a very bright blue light to show that the device is powered, once I ahve installed it, I don't need it to be on, hence giving 4 stars.

Tricky with Windows 7
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 27/10/2009
A nice looking unit, easy to fit and connect. However W7 64bit decided it was an infra-red device. Went MS's USB help page and solved it by disabling the USB root hub and then reinstalling.

Works

FIrstly, I followed the manufacturer's instructions on the website to install it on Windows 7 (64-bit) but I still get error messages relating to the sim card drivers even though it actually works OK.
Secondly, it doesn't fit snugly in my 3.5" drive bay and needed a bit of padding inserted along the side to get the fascia flush with the front of my PC but that may be down to my tower case.
Lastly, this comment will apply to all internal card readers, I wish I'd bought an external one, getting a card in the correct slot is fiddly when I have to bend down in my chair and peer myopically at the tiny letttering on the front of the reader to work out which slot to use.
Overall, it works so it will stay fitted.
