Rang APC and they say that have issues with the model and they have sent me 2 of 500VA, Big + to APC

I bought this based on various web reviews having never used APC products. The UPS is used to maintain a home network consisting of a 500 GB network hard drive, wireless hub, gigabit switch and modem on the powered sockets and a network printer box and laser printer on the filter only sockets. During a ‘test’ power cut with the four powered items still being used the UPS ran for 24 minutes showing a reserve of 8 minutes. A nice point is that the sockets are standard 3 pin rather than ‘kettle’ leads which makes the above set-up possible although block connectors are a tight fit. Ordering was quick and painless with standard delivery occurring within 48 hours. However a warning about delivery to the Coventry area; the evening option isn’t supported by the local courier (discovered after returning from work to find a card through the door) requiring a trip across town to collect and an online conversation with Dabs to get a refund on the evening delivery charge.

It does what it says it will!

I bought this because we'd been having some of those nasty off-on in quick succession type power interruptions.
No sooner did I have it charged up, that we had another powercut which tested the unit before I could!
The computer stayed on until it was safely hibernated by the software.
I also found that the unit charged up much quicker than it said in the manual.
A word of advice to save a little anxiety... once you have the unit charged and ready to run - before switching on your connected devices, let it go through the motions of being switched on, making a humming sound then a clunk and a click to get itself ready first. Otherwise the "battery not charged enough" alarm may sound unnecessarily!
Get some peace of mind with this unit - well worth the money!

Not a good APC - No Selftest

I have purchased a number of APC products over the years both professionally and personally. Unfortunately this unit does not have a self-test function meaning you are on a wing and prayer that is works if you turn the power off to test. The safest way to test is remove all the sensitive equipment, plug in a lamp and test. Too much hastle.
