Truly Excellent
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 06/09/2009

I'm a little confused by the mixed reviews on this site that I have seen for this router. I have been using it for several months now, and it is an excellent piece of kit.

I live in an area with poor connection speeds, and on the 'Homehub' supplied by my Service Provider (no prizes for guessing who that is, although i'm not allowed to name them) - my connection speed was a very poor 600k - bought this router for the wireless N capabilities, not expecting any increase in connection speed.

However I was stunned by the fact that my connection speed is now a very stable 1.8mb! I know that still isn't fast in the scheme of things, but it's a major increase on previous speeds.

The overall product quality and ease of use and setup is absolutely fantastic.

I really, honestly, couldn't reccommend it more.

Excellent

I bought this with a genuine pang of guilt because if the price. However - after installing I was delighted with my purchase. Setup was a breeze, and the quality of the product is second to none.

Its feature rich, and supplies a lot of info at the touch of a button - it even upped my broadband speed from 19MB --> 21MB (Coincidence?).

Either way - very happy.

Belkin N1 Vision BT/ADSL Modem Router
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 05/09/2008

This unit does what it exactly says. I use a ADSL BT connection with historically a Thomson 330 ADSL modem from virgin. Followed the instructions from the sheet and in less that 10 mins had the unit enabled and the WEP/WAP security enabled. Very good unit all round with no signal drop even when 50 or so metres in the garden

A Balance
Reviewed by Regs. Review Posted 12/08/2008

TO balance the review saying don't buy anything Belkin cos its rubbish. I have a Belkin 802.11g modem/router and a USB wireless n hook up as well as 2 laptop PCMCIA cards all of which work perfectly and never ever drop a connection. I don't own the N1 vision but I am seriously considering buying one due to my previous experience with this great firm.

I bought this router as i have extremely thick walls in my flat and all the other tenants also have wireless routers, so signal problems due to interference also.

I have never bought a router and found the default channel to give the best signal strength or quality.

The best advice i can give is to try each channel in turn, test both the transfer rate on that channel and also whether the signal drops at all, and then move onto the next. Note down the best ones and then use those. The auto-channel feature of routers in general simply doesn't work in cases when you need it most.

If you follow this advice, you won't find a better router.

As for the fancy screen - it is a cool gimmick for the first few weeks, but not worth the extra cost in the long run.

Good & Bad Points
Reviewed by Alb. Review Posted 17/11/2008

Very impressed overall. The Router was very easy to set up and the modem synchronised at a higher speed than its predecessor ever managed. No connection problems on either the wired or wireless side and generally speaking, it's been very stable. The bad bit is that the LCD display failed after a couple of hours so the unit is now being RMA'd back to Dabs. I've not seen any other reports of this so I'm treating it as a one off.

Very flashy but has a few teething problems
Reviewed by Tim. Review Posted 28/05/2008

Having tested quite a few N modems with my ADSL2+ connection i thought i would try Belkin for a change. This modem instantly grabbed my attention because of its bandwidth monitoring features and stylish look. Multiple antennas have a brilliant range that i tested round the back field and still got 40% signal on my N standard laptop. After a few days i noticed a glitch with the modem. All my devices would loose connectivity for approx 15 seconds, VOIP calls, Internet gaming and downloads would all stop and disconnect. It did this every few hours and still does. I have spoken to Tech support (rubbish BTW) and they said that they are releasing new firmware very shortly, so i am waiting for that before i return this to Dabs.com because of the fault. If they fix that problem which cuts off my calls, laggs me out of internet games and stops my downloads then i would happily give this modem 5/5 but until then i have to stick with perhaps 3/5.

Flawed but fast
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 30/08/2010

Like others here, I have found that my internet speed has improved alot, from 480k to 1000k. Also, network speeds are great when handling large files between computers.
The setup is so simple. All you need is your username and password. The router sorts out all the other settings.
BUT, when I turn on the wireless network, I have found I have to reboot the router after a few days. Also, the connection to the internet is now fairly unstable. My old router (livebox) would remain connected forever, but this router, I'm amazed if the connection stays up for more than a day without interuption. It's probably the price you pay for the boost in speed.
The screen is a bit of a gimick, but is does diplay some useful download information. It would be nice if the same information could be accessed from a computer in another room.
Would I buy another? Of course, because it looks great sat next to the phone, unlike all the other bland boxes with blinking lights.
