Connection type
Reviewed by Somerset Sam. Review Posted 01/07/2009

I'm sure this is a good bit of kit, but don't get it if you need type PPoA connection. That type is not supported even though it is a router not a modem/router. For the price I would have expected more flexibility. I learnt the hard way after getting 'help' from Belkin.

Review update
Reviewed by Chris. Review Posted 31/01/2008

As an update to my first review, having lived with it a while, I found out how to assign permanent IP addresses so all is not lost and it still works very well. I've found it very handy having the speed screens to show how fast you are downloading etc.

installs in less than 5 minutes

Installation is so simple.

Unplug old router, plug in new router and then connect up.

I had two my two laptops, IPAQ and Nokia N80 connected within minutes.

The "guest" wireless SSID and the display showing the amount of network traffic being the major benefits.

First impression

Overall this seems to be a good product the coverage is good works a treat with my built-in pre-N Asus laptop and the screen info is helpful. only down sides so far are,1) when it locks up the reset button has no effect so had to turn off at the mains, 2)main problem for me, no facility to assign static IP addresses for network printers and hard drives.

Belkin N1 Vision
Reviewed by Dr Nick. Review Posted 24/02/2008

Although it is aesthetically pleasing, under the bonnet there are, what I would call serious shortfalls in facilities in the software/firmware

No Wildcard tick box in DDNS settings

No pick list in the MAC Filter list, all addresses have to be entered manually

No pick list in the IP Filter list, all addresses have to be entered manually

Devices that have their IP address selected manually appear in the DHCP Client List as Unknown but on the web interface they don't appear at all

Devices that have their IP address selected manually outside of the IP Pool Ending Address appear in the DHCP Client List as Unknown but on the web interface they don't appear at all

No facility to rename a device in the DHCP list

If the Router has to be restarted it doesn't update the DHCP Client list until each device is rebooted

No facility to allocate a fixed IP address

All the reviews on this device have concentrated on the eye candy and we all know that beauty is only skin deep

-ve
- the odd stand makes it VERY difficult to attach / stick it to the wall (as routers are always recommended to be kept at the highest part)
- it does not e-mail security logs
- the front main login page displays ALL your router information (all ip information, ssid, serial #,etc), meaning if you turn on remote management, anyone with your ip address and WITHOUT the password can still see your router configuration?!?!?!
- you can't assign dhcp ip addresses based upon mac address, meaning you need to hard code the ip address on the computer if you want it to retain it.
- some times you can't login to your router with the password, it then requires a reboot to fix that problem.
- its not compatible with firefox as it does not let you login with your password

my verdict...it might be an idea to stick with Netgear.

Overheating, Unreliable
Reviewed by Michael. Review Posted 02/01/2010

First impressions are good; it looks nice and is relatively simple to set up. However our unit ran very warm from day one, despite being mounted vertically in a well-ventilated space. After six months of use it began crashing regularly, once or twice a day, forcing a power-cycle to reboot. After twelve months the power supply failed and had to be replaced. Now after 16 months the router has died completely. Pathetic reliability for a premium priced product.

dont bother if you use wireless xbox 360
Reviewed by lee. Review Posted 29/03/2009

Don`t bother with this unit if you plan on using a wireless xbox 360 . the firmware is still not ready for this the 1.00.15 filmware will make your live acount disconect every 2 hours and the updated 1.00.16 latest firmware will not work at all with a wireless adapter for 360. overall iam not a happy bunny as i have 3 xbox`s in my house. however if you use a lead to connect then the 1.00.16 firmware works great. no more disconects.
