Close, but no cigar

The best value Blu-Ray player is a bit of a conundrum. The picture and audio quality are astounding for a machine at this price, but the whole thing is rather let down by poor mechanics. My example often needs 3-4 attempts to open the disc drawer. By this, I mean it opens/closes/opens/closes etc, getting further out each time, until it finally gets to where it should have been the first time, and remains fully open. It often won't close at all, and needs to be given a helping hand. Once the disc is inside, it loads fairly quickly, and does all the things you would expect it to. The transport itself is, fortunately, not as 'flakey' as the loading mechanism, and the machine copes admirably with 'difficult' discs, which don't always play cleanly on far more expensive name-brand players. If the loading problems could be sorted out, I would give this machine at least a '4', and maybe even a '5' overall - so it's a question of 'close, but no cigar'
