Fantastic Value for Money

Got mine over the Christmas period and it dose exactly what it say on the tin to pardon a phrase. image quality is very good and signal is just as good I picked up quite a lot of channels compared to my friend that have spent more money on more well known brands.
You would be silly to miss out on a excellent product like this at such a great price

Other reviews make no sense. The spec is correct. It makes no mention of recording, it's a playback device and awesome value for money. No need to pay extra for digital TV. Well done Maidston!

Original description WAS wrong-but still good value.

The description was changed around christmas and originally said 'Supports USB2.0 recording and time shifting' However it will display JPEGs and play back MP3s and some MPEG files, and is therefore still good value for money

Passable but not great for the money
Reviewed by Matt. Review Posted 03/03/2011
Ok, first off it doesn't record. It doesn't claim to record. I've not encountered any set-top boxes that record to USB. If you want to record, get one with a hard drive built in, as they do.
Now that's out of the way, the quality. Picture quality from this box is surprising. When it's got a good signal, it's nice and clear. Unfortunately, it doesn't need much of a drop in signal to start playing up - sound and picture glitches all over the place when my digibox from Asda was fine on the same TV and aerial. It detects more stations, but this is no use as they're not really watchable.
USB playback is passable. It's really fussy about file formats - played most files, but they would go out of sync or freeze part way through. Filenames with full-stops in seem to confuse it too. I had Video.DivX.AVI that wouldn't play, but renaming to Video.AVI worked.
I have a VBridge now (no Freeview), and that plays everything flawlessly. This Maidston box sits with an older 15" TV getting light use.

As the previous reviewer pointed out this does not support recording to usb. It will show your jpg images from usb. The playback of radio had interruption but the tv was fine.

Disappointing

Do not be deceived (like I was...) This box DOES NOT SUPPORT USB RECORDING!!! It allows you to playback videos or photos from a USB stick but it will not record on to that stick. Fairly basic freeview box when all is said and done. Mine's going back.

Terrible user interface. Interference from anything electrical, mobile phones wifi, a boiler, a fridge. Also Audio out of sync. All in all the worst one i have experienced and had a few. No point returning as would be paying same in postage as item cost in the end so ..bin it is.

Not Good Value AT ALL!

Sorry but this is a terrible piece of kit. i have owned a few budget digi boxes but at least they were useable. It is really badly affected by interference, so if you have cordless phones wifi a mobile phone a boiler a fridge ...well you get the idea, It causes the picture and audio to stutter and become unviewable. The best one I have used for handling interference was the Phillips one but as with all digi boxes I have used, that seemed to have a very short life span. It also has a terrible user interface and you dont seem to be able to browse the EPG without it changing channel to the one you are looking at. And finslly the picture and audio are constantly going out of sync..Which is a new one for me.. Anyway in summary i use Dabs a lot and thought the reviws were reasonable but I am going to have to buy another and this will be going in the bin, because if i pay to send it back I will have paid as much in postage as this bit of junk cost.
