Low price but not cheap
Reviewed by Laurence Bonf. Review Posted 30/05/2010
I bought one of these to replace an old Epson photo printer which had died. This Canon cost little more than the replacement ink cartridges for the old printer. So it seemed like I had little to lose. If the printer proved to be less than perfect, I had not wasted too much money.
However, this printer has been a revelation. It is faster and easier to use than the printer it replaced. It is not lacking in quality either. It prints great looking photos. The duplexer and DVD/CD label printing work flawlessly.
That is does this at such a low price point is marvellous. The icing on this particular cake is that the replacement ink cartridges are cheaper than the old printer's ones.

Fantastic value printer
Reviewed by Eric Eisenhandler. Review Posted 14/12/2009
I've had an Epson photo printer for many years. Good quality, but slow - and if you don't use it for a while you have to waste a lot of ink and time cleaning the nozzles. I was thinking of a very much more expensive Epson photo printer, but reviews say that nozzle clogging is still a problem. So I thought I'd try the Canon iP4700, but I was worried by the relatively low price. What a nice surprise! It's fast, and the print quality is very good. Of course genuine Canon ink and paper are expensive, and that's how they make a profit. I might try other types of paper, but will stay with Canon ink - I don't want my prints to fade or to compromise print quality. (I do ordinary b&w printing on a cheap monochrome laser printer.) I just did some A4 prints of photos I took at a concert - the colours are excellent and the black backdrop is jet black. Canon's printing software for Macs was also a pleasant surprise - works well and is quick and easy to use for a variety of standard formats.

I think I'm missing something.
Reviewed by . Review Posted 01/09/2010
And what am I missing? The USB cable. This printer comes with 2 power leads but no USB. The product specifications don't even tell you if it needs a generic or model specific USB, and you would think the accessories page would list what you want. It's not just that the product isn't ready to go out of the box. It's that nowhere does Dabs tell you what it is you need to get it working. It's only when it lands on your doorstep you find out. I'm very tempted to use my 7 day grace on the DSR legislation to send this back.
