HS System with High-sensitivity 10 MP CCD and DIGIC 4
The HS System is a powerful combination of high-sensitivity sensor and DIGIC 4 processor - providing exceptional low-light shooting capabilities. Higher ISO reduces the need for flash and allows faster shutter speeds to reduce blur when the subject is in motion.
DIGIC 4 Processing
Canon's DIGIC processor is the brain inside every Canon digital camera - working with the image sensor to ensure optimum quality and fast operation, as well as powering intelligent technologies such as Face Detection and Motion Detection Technology. DIGIC 4 is Canon's most advanced, offering near-instant startup, superb detail and low noise (even at high ISO) plus enhanced movie functionality.
28mm wide, 5x zoom lens with Hybrid IS
A high-quality genuine Canon lens covering 28-140mm (35mm equivalent) allows for flexibility and clarity. The optical Image Stabilizer corrects camera shake up to 4-stops, while Hybrid IS gives sharp results when shooting macro.
7.0 cm (2.8") vari-angle LCD, Electronic Level, OVF
The vari-angle PureColor II VA LCD offers superb colour rendition and contrast and can be adjusted for shooting at awkward angles. Electronic Level display shows a level indicator on screen to check the camera is horizontal while an optical viewfinder allows the user to compose using their own shooting style.
Take Full Control
The PowerShot G12 features Full Manual mode with RAW format giving the user complete control during post-shot editing; and with support for Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software, digital SLR users can integrate the PowerShot G12 into an existing workflow.
HD movies with HDMI
As well as shooting high quality stills, the PowerShot G12 can capture 720p HD Movies with stereo sound. Results can be played back with no loss in quality via the HDMI terminal.
High Dynamic Range mode
In high contrast scenes, a conventional digital camera can struggle to capture detail in shadows and highlights. When placed on a tripod the High Dynamic Range mode takes multiple exposures of the same scene and combines them in-camera to capture a high contrast scene in detail.
Smart Auto
Smart Auto uses Scene Detection Technology to detect the appropriate scene from a possible 28, to obtain the best result. Smart Flash Exposure intelligently controls flash power and usage.
Multi-Aspect Shooting
The user can shoot in a range of formats including 3:2, 1:1, 16:9 and 4:5 allowing perfect composition at the time of shooting without the need to post-process.

The PowerShot G12 employs the HS system by combining a powerful 10-megapixel CCD sensor and Canon's DIGIC 4 Image processor. Thanks to this technological advancement, the G12 is dramatically more sensitive than cameras with identical megapixel counts, and delivers spectacular images with minimal noise. Increased sensitivity demands a higher ISO speed, and the PowerShot G12 delivers with a maximum setting of ISO 3200. Blur and camera shake are notably reduced for the ultimate in sharpness and clarity. In addition, a low light mode lets you capture images in an astonishing range of conditions. -
Easy HD shooting and HD playback
The PowerShot G12 lets you record video in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD videos (and still photos) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition TV monitor. You'll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 still images at once. Creative power in your control
The PowerShot G12's RAW mode lets you shoot images without JPEG compression. It gives you clearer images and complete creative control in editing. RAW images are transferred directly to the computer where they can then be edited using image adjustment software or a processing application to adjust your images as you please. The camera can also be set to allow the simultaneous recording of both RAW and JPEG images while shooting. -
Zoom at will - you're in the clear
The PowerShot G12 is equipped with Canon's highly advanced Hybrid IS function, which corrects camera shake from two sources to deliver sharp, blur-free images even when you zoom in close to your subject. Hybrid IS employs both an angular sensor and an accelerometer, enabling it to suppress both the blur caused by the angle of the camera and the "shift blur" that happens when your subject moves parallel to the camera, a problem that is especially noticeable at large zoom factors. Beautiful images with beautiful detail
Shooting in high contrast environments can often result in photos with overexposed and underexposed sections. So to tackle this problem, Canon developed the high dynamic range shooting mode to make select PowerShot cameras even more intuitive. Under high dynamic range the camera will shoot three different exposures in a succession (underexposed, overexposed and normal) and then merge them into a single image. Underexposed areas are combined with the overexposed and vice versa, resulting in an evenly detailed image with flattering shadows and highlights.
