Description
This desktop switch offers an inexpensive alternative to fibre optics for the SOHO and small and medium business (SMB). Increasing network loads can be handled with the increased bandwidth of Gigabit Ethernet.
Gigabit connectivity without fibre
The switch provides 5 Gigabit ports in the familiar Ethernet format, so it works seamlessly with existing network cables (CAT5 or higher). Up to 2000 Mbps can be achieved in full-duplex mode, giving workstations bottleneck-free access to server data.
Plug-and-Play installation
All there is to do is plug the cables into the switch. All ports support both straight-through and crossover cable types, eliminating the need for an uplink port. And with 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-sensing, no configuration is required.
Think Green
By sensing whether attached devices are ON or OFF and estimating the cable length, the switch is able to adjust its power consumption, for a total saving of up to 27%*.
*Figure based on a scenario assuming that PCs are used for 10 hours a day, powered off 14 hours a day and connected to the switch using 20m cables.
- Power-saving feature, up to 27%* less power consumption (dlink green version only)
- 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports
- Plug-and-play installation
- Desktop size, no fan

Excellent choice

A really good and simple to use product. Price and warranty are fantastic as well (especially when compared to both home and business 5-port switches by Netgear). A highly recommended purchase!

simply the best value for money

as unmanaged switches go, this is amazing value for money. it does exactly what is should: it is fast (yes it is!), it is simple to install (plug'n'go) and it is quite nice looking (well...). it also consumes very little power (max 9W) which is a good thing. gigabit for the masses!

Switch To D-Link
Reviewed by John Heaton. Review Posted 25/06/2007
Cheap, Fast & Compact. Add to this it does exactly what it says on the tin, and you have yourself a very good product indeed. Unmanaged means no messing about with silly web based settings. Auto MDI/MDI-X means no running to PC World and getting ripped off by Belkin for a cross-over adapter. 5 ports actually does mean 5 usable ports, as is, no 4 + 1 uplink. In the past I've avoided D-link as their products look like retro 80's junk. However out of the box it looks a lot nicer than you'd think, and those nasty go faster holes the switch has been dotted with actually come in handy for stacking. Ideal for any home user on a budget wanting to connect several network devices at high 1 Gbit speeds (with ease). No nonsense networking, it’s about time.

Unfortunately, it locks up every few days
Reviewed by Niki. Review Posted 22/11/2009
Very fast, with relatively low energy use, but how on earth they can sell a so called green product that doesn't have an on/off switch I will never know. Also the power supply is an old style transformer and not very efficient. But the worst aspect of the product is that it locks up every few days requiring a power reset to get it functioning again.
