I purchased this router to replace my old Belkin-F5D72314. My network was performing adequately up until the point when I added an Xbox-360 into the mix of connected devices (already connected were two desktops and a laptop). The Belkin was a nightmare to configure for Xbox Live. I decided it was time to upgrade, and chose the D-Link DIR-655 due to its vast array of advanced features and also because it is Xbox Live certified. I must say this router didn’t disappoint, on the contrary, it actually exceeded my expectations. I currently have; two desktops, two Xbox 360’s, and one laptop - all connected to the Internet via this router. Everything runs smoothly, even when the Xbox’s are connected to Live. It was as simple as enabling DHCP on the router to get both Xbox’s online. I use the advanced QoS feature to ensure http traffic gets priority, which is a great to allow everyone Internet access at all times. All in all, I highly recommend this router to anyone with a busy home network.

Excellent upgrade from my belkin g router (still working but slow).
Advantage of 4 gigabit internal network connection as well as excellent wifi(have to use WPA security setting) otherwise will only use g speeds.
Setup was simple without cd .
Hopefully wont need 11 year warranty.

No more research required. Buy this.

I bought this router 6 months ago and all my problems were resolved instantly. Highly configurable, better range with 11g devices (no more wifi repeaters). My 11n notebook adapters from the US (the UK Rangebooster version works fine I expect, but it is clear from the US website that it is the previous model). 11n performance is great and always connects instantly at 300Mbps (not actual performance but a good sign).

Menus are easy to use, firmware is updated regularly (I use the more up to date US firmware). The config backup option could be easier to access, the DHCP server is a bit quirky when dealing with DHCP ranges and allocating permanent IP addresses but these are very minor quirks, none of which impact performance or usability.

Plenty of research later this top class wireless router is well supported and has great performance, I doubt a better option is available. Use the Vigor100 ADSL modem, which is very easy to set-up, all via the dlink, and optimises ADSL performance.

As another reviewer did, I installed this device without use of the supplied CD with no problems. Sticking with the default settings ensures a straight-forward and secure wireless installation out of the box.

Use of the more advanced features requires a bit of reading up - but are there when you need them.

Wireless performance has been flawless with my various 11g devices - though I can't comment on draft-n.

The 1Gb/s wired router makes transfers between my two servers satisfyingly swift.

Overall - a great product!

Solid router with good features - not just for cable connections

Really impressed, very simple setup (avoided the included CD and opted to do it myself so can't comment on the supplied software though).

No idea why it's labelled 'for cable connections' as it works perfectly with my my ADSL modem.

Far greater range over our network's several buildings than my old 54g router.

Yet to fully configure QoS but interface appears to be straightforward.

Simply, its great...but at a price.
A great deal of options. Really powerful unit with allsorts of routing, and traffic shaping options. If you share a house with lots of people this unit is extremely smart at being able to balance everyone’s needs instead of letting the DSL link saturate to the point the network is useless. I can now play games while other people continue to use the internet unlike before with more affordable routers. You get what you pay for but you should really only consider this unit if: you need more range, lots of concurrent users/apps, hosting servers or if high security settings are needed.

Fantastic, expensive, great. Had it working in minutes. Range is greater than my old D Link 11g. I had to put that in the loft but this one has greater range from the bedroom. Good set up utility, lots of features and fast. Unfortunately shipment was delayed by 6 days whilst Dabs sorted out the security check they have imposed on my Visa card. Card was always OK before and everywhere else. After many emails and conflicting information the hold was cleared after 6 days. Dabs said there was no error in processing the order so presumably this could happen again.

Brilliant bit of kit..! I have just added a server to my home, for my univeristy degree, and this makes everything smoother and quicker...!

Reason for 4* is because once again, they always stock the box with small cheap media. i.e. Cat 5e that looks like i could have made it. But i have 10's of good quality wires, and doesn't bother me much..! other than that, it's DEFINATLEY a hit for me!

Compatibility problems with some devices

Great product in many ways, easy set up, works with a good selection of PCs and WLAN enabled smartphones. But I'm very disappointed that it won't connect to my Dlink DSM-520 media streamer. Especially because Dlink's US web site says they are compatible. Lots of errors in the log saying the media streamer disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication. Since then I've seen quite a lot of reports on the web citing this problem with deauthentication on other devies. So beware if you have a DSM-520 or maybe some older network cards.
