Description
In today's world mobility has become a key factor. People who are on the road carry their whole office with them - notebook, mobile phone, PDA, external hard drive. Imagine what can happen when you're late for a flight, running to the gate, and your external hard drive accidentally falls from your notebook case or out of your jacket pocket onto the floor - it breaks. Hundreds of hours of work, gigabytes of spreadsheets, documents, photos - all gone. Not anymore! Freecom offers the ToughDrive - the ideal external storage solution for people on the move. Fitted with an internal anti-shock frame and a unique soft silicon cover, it can withstand bumps and drops so your drive is still fully functional after it has dropped. The ToughDrive ensures you can still access your valuable files.

Power!
Reviewed by Patrik. Review Posted 16/12/2009
This is truly a great drive. very fast transfer of files. Only snag is the huge power consumption this seems to take on my Dell desktop. Had to order a special USB Y Cable from Freecom in order to get it to work. But what is strange is the fact it works without a problem on my laptop and on 4 other Dell desktops at work?! Nevertheless, a great drive. PS I bought a powered USB hub which seems to have cured any power issues!

Brilliant!!!

Received 2 of these (day after ordering) and they are simply fantastic.
Unpack, plug-in, install of "Turbo USB" program, restart of PC and ready to use.
Thanks to the Turbo transfer, the speed of transferring files are nothing short of fantastic. I transferred a few Gigabytes of data in the matter of a couple of minutes.
Buy one, you will not regret it!!

I am a working DJ who made the move to digital a while ago and I use the Denon DNHD2500. This equipment is fussy on what hardware you connect to it but this version of the ToughDrive works flawlessly with the unit. I can highly recommend this for DJs using the Denon unit who also wish to travel light with a reliable hard-drive which doesn't run hot!!

Survived drop test - still working OK!
Reviewed by Simon Mills. Review Posted 08/01/2009
Bought the toughdrive after a laptop drive failure last year. It's nice and pocket-sized - not much bigger than my XDA phone, easy to carry, USB powered, bags of space on it. Always goes with me now.
I slipped over on ice early December '08 and landed on the toughdrive in my side pocket.
The toughdrive passed the test and still works. It fell about 1 metre and then 90 kg landed on top of it (me). I failed the drop test - my bruised ribs have only just recovered.

Best portable drive!

These really are an excellent drive. This is my second one as I have max'd out my 120GB version. Nice feel, nice performance, nice look. Well worth paying the extra few quid compared to plastic cased drives. Ended up getting the company I work for to take 4 of these! Haven't used the NTI software that comes with it as I have Acronis from old, but 10 out of 10 for the Toughdrive.

Short-lived

Got one of these in May 08 when it was £120, for use as a backup drive. It looks the part and I was very pleased until this week, after 13 months of light use, it started giving read errors. Have replaced the Samsung HM320JI that was in it with a Toshiba hdd, hoping for better luck with that.
The drives it was backing up are still going strong after 4½ years...!
