Description

Highest capacity and reliability with a proven design

The DeskstarTM 7K2000 hard drive delivers a colossal two terabytes of storage capacity and 7200 RPM performance in a standard 3.5-inch form factor. Now in its fourth-generation, the 7K2000 is based on a robust mechanical design that continues to set the industry standard for quality and reliability. Through a patented ramp load/unload design, data heads are moved to a ramp away from the disk where they rest during periods of inactivity. This greatly minimizes the risk of shock damage by eliminating direct contact between the heads and disks, reducing wear and heat while improving overall drive reliability and power efficiency. The Deskstar 7K2000 also incorporates thermal fly-height control (TFC) technology which uses an integrated heating element to precisely maintain a constant fly-height throughout read and write operations to enhance overall data integrity, drive performance and reliability. The 7K2000 features industry-standard native 512-byte sector formatting, ensuring compatibility with mainstream computing environments.

Outstanding energy efficiency

The Deskstar 7K2000 offers an exceptional blend of capacity and power efficiency, with idle power savings over previous generation products up to 10%. On a watts per gigabyte basis, idle power has improved over 120%. Leveraging eighth-generation power management technology, including power-saving innovations like HiVERT™ technology, this drive delivers best-in-class power management and thermal emissions to help manufacturers meet energy compliance targets and extend drive life.

Innovation for a more sustainable environment

The Deskstar 7K2000 demonstrates Hitachi ecological leadership with its halogen-free design and power-efficient operation. Both these features helped qualify the drive for the Hitachi EcoTrac classification, which identifies products that minimize environmental impact in the areas of product design, manufacturing, operation and disposal.

Good Raid drive and for Netgear Duo NAS

This works OK in my raid and my Netgear Duo NAS, which is more than could be said about the "Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green SATA300 64MB" which wouldn't work on either as a mirror only as a single disk

I ordered two of these drives to go into my Drobo - I've now just orfered a third. Installing them was just push it in a 'play'! They make a little bit of clatter when in operation but they are not overly noisy. In not reading/seeking they are very quiet. Looking at the noise specs these drives seem typical of the breed at the moment (all are around the 29db mark) so little to choose between them. I went for another one of these cos the WD drive wasn't available tho... but I'm happy with this drive.

Drive was easy to install, Windows 7 Disk Management System found and formatted the disk with no problems. I can't hear any additional noise from this drive above the ambient noise from the motherboard CPU cooling fan.
Drive was good value for money and was delivered very quickly and well packed. Fully satisfied.

Hitachi 7K2000 going strong so far

All going well so far. I have no reason to give this anything other than 5 stars. Yes, it isn't the most quiet drive in the world but it does the job.

I'm going to get another to back up this one.

No fault found so far

No problems with this drive so far. You can hear access as a faint rumbling but that's all.

Some add-on controllers won't recognise this drive or the Hitachi 1TB until they're formatted so you'll have to plug it into a motherboard SATA port and format it there first.

Note that the jumper has nothing to do with SATA 150 or 300 - see the Hitachi website.

Best 2 TB disk among those reasonably priced

We've bought over 30 of these so far, and impressions much better than WD Green 2 TBs and Seagate 2 TBs: Hitachi's disk is much faster (thanks to real 7200 RPM).

Excellent price also - it was about time for Hitachi to come to market, and once they did they certainly delivered a very good product.

We are planning to buy a lot more of 2 TB shortly and they are going to be these.

Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 2TB SATA-300 7200rpm 32MB.

Bought two of these to make a large Raid 0 install replacing 8 seperate drives on an Intel ICH9R drive.

Windows cannot boot from partitions larger than 2TB so I made two arrays with the Intel Matrix software and boot from a small 500GB volume and the rest is a GPT partitioned array giving about 3.25TB.

Drives arrived well packed and have been working out of the box for 5 days now.

They do get a bit warm out of the case in use so I recommend active cooling. I personally don't find them very noisy but seek noise is audible outside of the case over the drone of the fans.

Otherwise very pleased with them.

Does the job

I have to of these in RAID 1 on an ICH9R and they work perfectly. A bit noisy when really pushed but otherwise fine. Performance is better than the 500GB Samsungs that they replaced. Packaging could have been a bit better. It was one of those inflatable bag types and one of the drives wasnt fully protected. Use foam dabs......

7K2000 Used in LG NAS
Reviewed by . Review Posted 29/07/2010

I initially bought one of these to fit into a LG N2R1 NAS. After that one worked OK I bought another and set it as RAID1. The drives are probably working as best & fast as they can. I can access video files on each PC without problems. However in copying my DVD collection onto the NAS the process is sooo slow. It is copying at around 2Mb/sec. So transfering some 400 disks is taking forever. Alright, once it is done it'll be fine. I can then store the DVD's and access via WMC. And...free up physical space in our living room!

Got this to fit in a LG N2R1 NAS. Even though LG stated the maximum supported size was 2TB I chanced my arm. Although there is only on fitted at present it formatted to the full capacity. The drive is quiet in operation. I'm leaving it for about 4 weeks and if still OK I'll get another and see what happens when I fit it.

Good VFM considering I paid around the same for a 1TB about 6 months ago.
