Hitachi 1TB 7200RPM USB2

I have been using this drive to virtualise several laptops, producing files up to 50GB to be moved from one machine to another. It has worked with several different generations of Windows from 2000 to Vista as well as Linux. It has been an invaluable addition to my hardware collection and there have been no compatibility problems with actual or virtual machine connectivity.

I thoroughly recommend it.

Large capacity, small size, great price

I couldn't rate this any higher. The only function missing which a lot of drives how nowadays is "drop proof", but if you're not clumsy, then it'll be perfect. Worked perfectly first time it was plugged in and had no issues at all with my PC, mates Mac or work laptop (which is crap with a lot of external devices). In response to review above - many USB devices don't work from bootup - it's the nature of USB on cheap motherboards. But that shouldn't be an issue for most users.

Hitachi 1TB plug and no-play
Reviewed by David U. Review Posted 22/09/2009

Stylish and functional device with high transfer rate which is a plus, singularly let down by an inability to be recognised when powering up the computer. Hitachi website disappointing and no help on this matter, although internet full of similarly frustrated purchasors. Not a sensible acquisition until the plug and play software actually works reliably.
