Description
The Intel Core 2 Duo processors are built in several of the world's most advanced, high-volume output manufacturing facilities using Intel's leading silicon process technology. The processor family is based on the revolutionary Intel Core microarchitecture, designed to provide powerful yet energy-efficient performance. With the power of dual cores, or computing engines, the processors can manage numerous tasks faster. They also can operate more smoothly when multiple applications are running, such as writing e-mails while downloading music or videos and conducting a virus scan.

Awesome piece of kit

What can I say? A 13 year old kid on their first build. New mobo, and cpu, from a pentium 4 3.2ghz HT to this beast. Before it was my cpu that held the 9500gt back, now its the 9500gt. I can run GTA IV on medium settings with the 1.3 update but somethings up with 1.4 and my game plays horribly. Just like to tell you guys :) it handles that game like a piece of cake. With a future 4850 and 4gb ram this cpu will do just nicely. Thanks dabs for perfection all the way, recommended to everyone on here.

I originally ordered an AMD Phenom 9550 but after reading this review; http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/04/11/amd_phenom_x4_9850_9750_and_9550_b3_cpus/7 The E8400 was better on most tests, lower power consumption and low temperatures, mine currently at 31 C, 38 C under load.

Gently does it

Good little processor.
The chip itself is a snap to install, but the stock cooler is a mare. My advice is to get a decent fan at the same time you buy this chip.

Great performance Budget Price

Upgraded from a 3.2GHz P4 HT CPU not expecting too much of a performance increase but was pleasently surprised, very easy to install with the added bonus of being much cooler and quieter, the well known drone of the standard Intel cooling fans is now a much more acceptable quiet whisper

So cool

WOW! I can't belive it runs so cool 17 degrees with artic cooler pro on easy load, my athlon 64 4000+ ran at 29.
Havn't tried heavy load yet but expect it to run cooler than 40.
My advise..If you want speed, coolness and ease on the wallet go for this.

Excellent CPU and runs even cooler
Reviewed by dl. Review Posted 01/04/2008
This is a superb CPU for the following reasons:
1. It's the new 45nm process. That means it runs so much cooler (and hence quieter) than my previous E6700. For a 3GHz CPU this barely gets hot even on full chat!
2. It's go improved L2 Cache size, which means it can run on its own for longer without too many memory writes/reads.
At this price point it is reasonable.
The only "gotcha" is check your motherboard for 1333FSB support. A lot of mobos claim FSB 1333 support but in practice it is only achievable using their overclocking features.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this CPU - it's better than any of the AMD X2 line with half the heat generation.

Sweet processor

Swapped this for E6400 and immed 50% perf improvement, awesome value for current £130 price (vfm should be 6!). Using with Asus P5KC which is excellent value itself and with BIOS upgrade recognises new 45nm processors fine. Problem with current monitoring software not registering temps correctly (shows core1 at 28deg, core2 44deg idle!, 34/50 loaded). Was AMD convert til C2Duos came out and these latest 45nm chips from Intel distance themselves further up the price/perf curve. Cant recommend enough (if you can get hold of one!)

I had the chance to try one of these , via a friend , and all that is needed is that it lives up to expectation.
Will run at rating . Also runs a lot more - although who actually needs 4Ghz per processor yet ? Asus P5K Deluxe used in testing.
With a Nautilus 500 the processor idled at 30 , and pushed 42.
