Great notebook but there are niggles!

Great notebook, bulky and slightly heavy but this is the price you pay for a quality, well put together product.
I would recommend as a desktop replacement rather than carrying it around all the time and with a 2Gb memory upgrade (comes with 2 x 512Mb which I discarded) it's very pleasant to use.
My one gripe is that there is so much software installed as standard it's crazy, nor are there recovery CDs. I used a Vista Home Premium CD to wipe the entire disk and started from scratch.. so much quicker now!
The Lenovo website is far from clear which drivers you need for the actual functionality but I got there by trial and error..

Don't be fooled by the price - this machine does not look or feel cheap and it really is a pleasure to use. The backup and recovery software provided by Lenovo is marvelous. The Lenovo Care software, used for controlling many aspects of using the computer, is really well thought out and helpful I suggest upgrading the amount of RAM from the supplied 1GB to at least 2GB. This makes a noticeable difference to boot-up speed/general performance. Screen: bright & clear; sound: surprising okay too; wireless performance more than meets my expectations; run time on the battery: good. No dual layer support with the DVD writer - probably of no importance to the average user. Screen cursor is controlled by a trackpad button. Don't let this put you off - this is actually a very effective, accurate, efficient and pleasant means of controlling the cursor. If you are in the market for a cheap laptop this really should be on your short list. Full marks from me!

I have used this laptop for a few months without any problem, though it will certainly benefit from a memory upgrade. Upgrading to Vista SP1 also improve its responsiveness. This laptop is really sturdy. Having opened it up for memory upgrade i saw its internal build with extra reinforcement cage-of coz you have to pay for that with a bit extra weight but overall it is fantastic.
