Installation Warning

Reader is excellent, capable of reading some DVDs my previous, slower DVD drive could not.
Average noise, but quiet for me as my case has a door.
Writer didn't work for me until I installed the very latest firmware and used the version of Nero which comes with the drive.
No problems burning (Verbatim DVD-R 16x).

I was attracted to this product by the offer of the LG Software however be prepared to be disappointed with the bundled DVD player software - cyberlink's Power DVD 8. It played music Cd's without a problem but it was not interested in playing the soundtrack to on a DVD movie. It's quick to provide the message "this version of the software does not support Dolby - click here for an upgrade" The click = $60 to get an upgrade! DABS customer services gave me LG's number to ask for a solution. LG said they could not accept any responsibility despite the DVD carrying their logo - and they tried to refer me to Cyberlink. Bottom line is that LG appears to be prepared to entice customers with the offer of software that doesn't work and that is rubbish. The chap from LG suggested downloading free DVD software from the web - Videolan.org

Overall product does exactly what it says it can do, however it had trouble reading older cd-rom's e.g-starcraft game disk , as in it took around 15 seconds to load.
