As with all LG drives I've ever owned, it's extremely quiet and smooth in operation.

Ok - maybe i was a little harsh

Ok , so I may have been a tad harsh before. Ive now discovered that the drive was making the system lock up was due to a dodgy SATA cable. This was a new cable but its clearly defective. With a new new cable my system is stable again. I still cant successfully burn my DVD-R media, but it does DVD+R with a different dye ok. So Ill rate it a little higher to repair the damage ive wrought.

Not impressed with this drive at all

Not impressed.
The drive fails to burn video DVD-R G05 dye media that i was happily using with 100% success on my old pioneer drive. On playback my tv's dvd player clearly struggles to read them and they start to skip about 3/4 of the way through.
The firmware is up to date, so it looks like the drive doesnt have a good burn strategy for this media.
Now im finding that my PC is locking up, and unplugging the drive seems to fix the problem.
The event viewer is showing lots of controller errors.
i think Ill trash the drive and try something else. Good job it was so cheap.
