The Linksys Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is the perfect option to connect a small group of PCs to a high-speed Broadband Internet connection or to an Ethernet back-bone. Configurable as a DHCP server, the EtherFast Cable/DSL Router acts as the only externally recognized Internet device on your local area network (LAN). The router can also be configured to block internal users' access to the Internet. Unlike a typical router which can only share 100Mbps over all its connections, the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is equipped with a blazing 4-port EtherFast Switch, dedicating a breakneck 100Mbps to each and every connected PC.
If four PCs are simultaneously accessing a standard shared-band-width router, they will only run at one-quarter the speed of any number of PCs accessing the Instant Broadband Cable/DSL Router. Not only will all of your PCs now be able to enjoy your lightning-quick Broadband Internet connection, they will also be able to share internal network data at ten times the Broadband Internet speed. Add it all together and your small network will move along faster than you ever thought possible.

If you want a relatively cheap and reliable router for cable/DSL connection, then look no further. This Router was up and running in minutes. No hassles at all. It even worked with AOL over a cable connection (Which AOL do not support or guarantee). I've had mine over 2 years no problems so far. Its on 24/7 365 - very reliable.

Great product

I've had this router for around 6 years and as I remember it cost me over £300 at the time I purchased it. Except for a brief ill-fated year or so with a Belkin wireless router Its been on my network ever since. I've ditched the Belkin router now and have a couple of Belkin 54G wireless access points connected to this router. Unlike the Belkin router it never seams to loose a connection. My Belkin (F5D6230-3) fell off the network every few hours no matter how I configured it. Eventually I assumed it must have been Tellewest fault. You live and learn!

Within 2 minutes of getting it out of the box all the computers on my network had working internet (Telewest Blueyonder). Only took minimal tweaking of the firewall trusted zones to allow the computers to share resources like disks and printers.
The configuration interface is also incredibly simple to use- I disabled its DHCP server option and set up port forwards in seconds. Also being able to change the settings from any computer means no more running around the house trying to get the network to work.
All in all a very good buy... perfect for any small network.
