MC Extender - now a great buy
Reviewed by Kermy. Review Posted 23/07/2009

Finally the Media Extender hits a price that makes sense, this is a superb device and is works extreamly well.

You really need this to have a very good "N" wireless network or use Cat5. With the right network connection, this works a treat, I have two working with my Vista PC and it's flawless (one in Wireless N and one on CAT5)

Menu can be sluggish, but turning off the transition effects makes it more "snappy", Vista PC controls the Sky Box, MEdia Extenders allow the sharing of Sky around the house, with timeshifting, puase and record.

Great - Just makesure you have plenty of hard disk space, 500GB dosnt last long...

Expensive product but good features
Reviewed by Billyboy312. Review Posted 22/03/2008

Very pleased with the performance of the unit but the price is a bit expensive. With more 3rd party plug-ins being developed (telephone caller id, weather and ebay links etc.) for viewing on your tv the unit seems to have a good future - just need the price to drop so they can be installed at all tv locations in the house!

Good but..
Reviewed by Arran. Review Posted 05/03/2008

This does what it says on the tin and is very small. Works like a Xbox360 extender only better. The main problem is the price. £100 would be more realistic.

Worth Every Penny
Reviewed by Scott. Review Posted 03/08/2009

Have to say this is a cracking little product, and I'm glad I didn't cancel my order.

Ran through the setup (display, sound etc) no problems at all, picture wasn't that bad and future proof with a HDMI port available...

Updating was painless with an on screen option to upgrade the firmware.

2 problems, linking the extender to my media centre, wouldn't recognise the key at 1st, but accepted the second one...

Second, setting up wireless, Achilles heal with this unit! From extender to router were talking a wall between them but the signal was very weak and took a number of times to connect successfully.

Once that was complete I had no problems at all, even with the unit telling me that I might have problems with a weak signal streaming films, live TV, music didn't drop once!

NO problems with AVI playback, Played every AVI I have and didn't complain once.

Gave it 4 out of 5 because of the wireless connect issue, but apart from that, worth every penny! :-)

Good little product but does have it's faults
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 23/03/2009

Bought the DMA2100 to view TV from my Vista Media Center PC in another room. Firstly, although it comes with wireless support this didn't work well at all - picture kept breaking up. Ordered some powerline adapters so that I could connect via Ethernet port connecting via my ring mains and it now works great. Slight delay on the menus and it occasionally fails to boot up so that I have to power it off and on but otherwise it works great.

Nice box but needs Vista or WM7
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 29/07/2009

Unfortunately the DMA2100 will not work without Windows Vista as it is an extension of the Media Centre software and is not capable of stand alone function.

This means if you have a NAS and want to stream media without a PC in the loop, it cannot do that.

It's a shame as it's a lovely package at a great price.

Linksys DMA 2100 & 2200
Reviewed by Jules. Review Posted 06/03/2009

I have 2 DMA2200 and 2 x DMA2100's there is a little lag on the menu, but I found the DMA2200 to be slightly snappier than the 2100 version.

To summarise remote on Linksys is rubbish by comparison to Xbox remote, but even though not perfect device (1 second lag on mce menu & lack of x.264 support etc) , I’m sticking with the Linksys DMA’s, mainly due to the support for Xvid and WMV 9.. and its quieter.. And I’m hoping won’t suffer from xbox red ring issue i.e. more reliable that the Xboxes.
