Speaking as someone who has used every iteration of Windows since 3.1 this is the most important version of Windows possiblt ever, could Microsoft actually produce something that worked and didn't need an upgrade. The answer is a resounding YES. I upgraded from Vista 64 to Home Premium 64, th ewhole process took around 5 hours and apart from some HP bloatware on my laptop everything else was detected and installed. 7 has changed my high end laptop into what it should be a flying machine, the performace rating has shot from Vista's 5.0 to 7's 7.6 and it shows. The operating system is worth every penny and so very much better than Vista. Sorry but it looks like Windows will be around for a while to come.

Great but...

I purchased this product under the discounted offer and bought two copies for two separate systems. Compared to previous versions it is everything that vista wasn't. It is easy to use and even upon installing found and installed all relevant drivers. No more trudging through old CDS. Up to now it seems to handle old games and old devices without a problem. However on my sons PC his older IDE drives disappeared after a while in windows. They still exist under BIOS but not windows. At first it was one and then the other. At first I thought it was a faulty drive or cable but unfortunately the same happened to my system. After trawling the microsoft databases it appears this has also happened to others. After contacting Microsoft they claimed it was just my hard drives but they are all under a year old and from different manufacturers. So overall a great system with an apparent annoying and costly quirk.
