Description

Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is designed to meet the demands of customers who require large amounts of memory and floating point performance in areas such as mechanical design and analysis, 3-D animation, video editing and composition, and scientific and high-performance computing applications.

The performance of 64-bit computing offers advantages in fields such as automobile or airplane design, by allowing engineers to create larger, more complex models. With such systems, engineers can use simulation software to analyze the effects of airflow, stress, and heat on materials of a car or plane, and then study the results to improve product design. Likewise, 64-bit computing is a benefit for digital content creators, including 3-D animators, digital artists, and game developers who can significantly reduce the time spent to digitally render three-dimensional models. In the areas of scientific and high performance computing, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will aid in oil and gas exploration, seismic analysis, computational fluid dynamics and scientific visualization among other applications.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) offers advanced security tools and technologies in addition to the latest updates from Microsoft. Windows XP SP2 enables you to defend your systems and information against threats by giving you more control over the security features and tools in Windows XP.

Why do they bother wih 32bit?
Reviewed by Zeth. Review Posted 12/08/2009

This is perfect, stable, utilizes all of your RAM over 2.5GB and 99% compatible with other software. The only software I have come across that did not work was some silly freeware software.

Windows has a whole "less is better" feeling to it. Seriously why are they still coming out with 32bit?

Regards the 1st negative review... ignore it it is very outdated. It's not Microsoft's fault if the your hardware supplier can't deliver 64bit version drivers for their product and those that don't is because the 32bit drivers work with the 64bit OS. I agree it is good for games mainly cause it utilizes more RAM then 32bit Xp.

Again it maybe true that some of your software will need 64bit programing and in some causes it may result in having to "upgrade" your software and pay more. IF this happens look for an alternative program to the one you are using, simple as!

GET IT or Windows7 64bit but skip Vista...

Really just Win Server 2003 x64 under the bonnet (i.e. the most stable OS there is)
Reviewed by ErikO. Review Posted 15/09/2008

I cannot praise this Operating System enough. Looking exactly like XP 32bit, it is familiar straight away.

As companies making drivers for corporate computers MUST have the most stable drivers possible, then consequently this has been the most stable OS I've yet seen, given this is W2003Server. The only 64 bit driver I couldn't find was for my card reader. Oh well.

I don't remember the last time I crashed. Really.

Changing from Vista, my 3DMark06 performance. went up by 30%!

I'm shocked that this OS is not the most popular out there.

I speak as an IT Professional.

The Best

Windows 64bit is brilliant. I have various 32GB RAM machines running 64bit Linux and 64bit Windows and the Windows ones are better every time.
I agree with the positive review below. This is the future.

XP 64 bit worth the effort
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 15/11/2007

This software once installed is worth the effort of obtaining the various drivers, it is very secure, and highly stable. The only drivers that are not obtainable are from software suppliers who cannot see the future.

Not just a 64 bit version of XP
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 21/01/2009

I upgraded from the 32-bit version hoping that I could quickly change - not the case. Whilst it will be very familiar to XP users there are a few important differences. If you want to use Live Messenger you cannot use the installer because this OS is not supported. Also, McAfee do not support this on their Home products, only Enterprise. The reason for this is that the code base behind it is not the same tree as the 32-bit version so be warned.
