NetGear 54 Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender Kit
Discontinued

Description

Some users find that their wireless router does not reach all corners or their home, or that they would like to have their wireless Internet access originate from a point of their choosing, rather than be tethered to the point where the internet enters their home. Other users would rather have a wireless network where no product is on the floor, and no cables are visible at all.

The WGXB102 HomePlug addresses these needs. It can provide you with wireless access in any chosen part of your home, with no visible cables to interfere with your home decor. Simply plug the XE102 Wall-Plugged Ethernet Bridge into your existing home router, and then plug the WGX102 54 Mbps Wireless Range Extender into any power outlet at a chosen location in your home.

  • Wall-Plugged form factor for the wireless range extender

  • Sleek silver casing, no new cables needed to run the Wireless Range Extender

  • Plug and play installation straight out of the box

Amazing product

I was looking for a solution to get my wireless network 100ft down to the end of my garden where I've just built a home office. This does it perfectly, and was an absolute doddle to set up. Only issue was the need to reboot my router after cycling power off/on on the remote wireless module. Otherwise it's working superbly, even though I'm going across different mains circuits and 2 consumer units with separate RCDs. Magic!!

Netgear 54Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender Kit
Reviewed by Jonathan. Review Posted 07/03/2007

I live in a relatively large 2 storey house (3500 sq ft) with block built solid interior walls and concrete floors. I was having problems with poor wireless reception in some of the more far flung upstairs rooms. I read several internet blogs and reviews on long-range wireless routers and high gain antennae. On reading the reviews I figured that these solutions would not work for my house. This piece of kit works brilliantly. It also allows me to access my wireless print server. I read some reviews that have questioned the data transfer speed, stating that the maximum data transfer rate was limited by the house electrical wiring (running at 14mbps and not 54mbps quoted by Netgear). As my internet connection is only 1mbps this is more than adequate for my needs at present. It also leaves room for extra data transfer rates if BT upgrades my local telephone exchange. Setup simple and straightforward. Usual great service from DABS. I found the same kit for £25 more on a competitor’s site.

Fantastic!

Works straight out of the box, and works! I have a home office 120ft down the garden and a wireless router at the front of the house - I tried Netgear pre-N and that didn't work and bought this as a last resort. I didn't think it would operate at such a distance on a completely different ring main.

Thoroughly recommend!

A great little bit of kit
Reviewed by MarkS. Review Posted 23/08/2006

This bit of kit works brilliantly in taking the connection from a wireless router in my garden office, into the house. The office electricity runs on a different circuit and through two different consumer units (fuse boxes) to the house (although from the same primary consumer unit source) and it all seems to find its way round just fine. Just pluged it in to to one room in the house and in the office, and my son's laptop now works anywhere in the house. He can print to the office and link into any computer on the network. Plays games such as Runescape just as quickly as a PC hard-wired into the network, so I'm told. It has saved cost and effort of another wire back to the house. I'd give it 10 out of 5.

Excellent bit of kit but difficult to secure
Reviewed by Greg. Review Posted 03/11/2007

NetGear's wireless range extender kit is an excellent bit of kit; it works very well to allow you to connect either your existing wireless router, or your broadband modem, to a wireless access point some distance away using the existing mains wiring in your house. And it works.
I was, however, staggered to discover that NetGear evidently think it is perfectly acceptable for the wireless network to not be encrypted out of the box. The process for turning on wireless encryption is, to say the least, non-obvious for a non-technical user.
Still, with my help, my friend got there in the end and is now very happy with how it has extended his wireless network to areas of the house that it previously didn't reach.

Good but ....
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 22/02/2007

Set-up was a nightmare in my security enabled network using a 3Com router. The written and CDROM instructions didn't help, and the Netgear telephone support was no better. I spent over an hour on an 0870 number (there is no UK landline number for tech support) to a call centre in India before the person at the other end admitted defeat, with a promise that someone with better knowledge of the product would call back. After much more fiddling around, I've managed to set it up properly and it seems to work well.

Great Product, if you don't like security...
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 04/10/2006

Works fine, until you enable security on the wifi side of it - then it fails miserably.

You get an IP address assigned, and you can access the management console (so the wireless and keys etc actually work), but you can't get past the remote homeplug unit, so internet access etc doesn't work.

Disable security and it all works fine again.

So, it's great. If you don't mind the whole world being able to access your network!!!

I couldnt get it to work After several emails and telephone conversations neither could Netgear so dabs eventually, after a couple of replacements because they didn't believe me and much persuasion, gave me a credit note when I returned it.
