Description
Wireless ConnectivityThe DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL modem router provides continuous, untethered access to network resources and the Internet. The DG834G allows you to share your hi-speed ADSL broadband connection wirelessly with all the desktop PC’s, laptops and games consoles in the household or small office. A built-in 4 port switch also enables you to connect some computers using cables if you prefer.
Safe and SecureThe built-in True Firewall features Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Denial of Service (DOS), which operate as your first line of attack against intruders. The DG834G provides both WEP and WPA-PSK wireless encryption standards to protect your network from eavesdroppers and bandwidth pinchers! Content filtering lets you control access to inappropriate websites and limit usage by time of day. To be ultimately secure you can limit access to designated computers using their unique ID, called a MAC address.
Easy to Set-upThe DG834G 54 Mbps wireless router is simple to use – it plugs directly into your ADSL line, no need for a separate modem. Set-up could not be easier; NETGEAR’s Smart Wizard install assistant automatically detects and makes the best connection to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). It is also easy to change the settings of your DG834G wireless router via a web-browser interface. |

No USB Dongle Supplied
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 11/12/2007
I'm not writing this off or anything. But lets say a popular retailer is selling these for 40 quid atm with the USB Dongle Supplied.
This version arrived this morning and it does not contain one in the package.
Other than that, it's a good model, I've been using the wired model for ages and it works with tricky ISPs like AOL.

Ordered on Friday, delivered on Saturday, despite choosing the cheapest delivery option. Well done Dabs. Even counting unpacking time, twenty minutes later it was running. No tweaks, no fiddling. Well done Netgear - as clear a set of instructions as I've come across. Basically they were "Stick the CD in the PC". After that it was a case of following prompts or answering questions in the software. I've now got 2 wireless laptops (1 Vista, 1 XP), 1 wired XP desktop (1 of the 4 LAN ports on this router) and a wired laser printer (another LAN port) all interconnected. Massive upgrade in previous capabilities and rock-solid connections. Strangely, despite the 2 laptops being roughly equidistant from the router in opposite directions, one of them shows signal strength as max whereas the other shows it as weak. However the latter has no problems in using the connection and browsing, downloads etc all work at good speeds. If only all equipment was as easy to set up and use.

Fantastic

I've had lots of problems trying to set up routers in the past. No more! This is so easy to use, and it came with an added bonus.... I live about 100 meters from my university, and as the uni network is rubbish, I can pick up the signal from within uni and use it with the signal strength on 'good'. This is a fantastic product, well worth buying and so simple to set up!

Solid router
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 10/04/2006
Had mine for a year and a half now. There were a load of problems with computers using XP service pack 1, but once I had figured out that problem the thing has been rock solid. Its on nearly all the time and I share the connection with 5 people. Range seems good as well.
