Description
Now you can have a powerful, high-speed network on a small scale. NETGEAR's GS105 Gigabit Ethernet Switch lets you build a system that provides a full, dedicated 1000, 100, or 10 Mbps connection so you can move very large files across your network instantly. The GS105 also lets you painlessly integrate 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps devices. This potent switch is packed with ease-of-use features to simplify your workday experience. Its compact design fits neatly into small workspaces and, since it's self-cooling without a fan, it runs silently and unobtrusively.
NETGEAR's GS105 Gigabit Ethernet Switch moves huge files fast! It features a high-speed, auto-switching 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connection. And because Copper Gigabit Ethernet is a full duplex standard, you can get up to 2000 Mbps on each port.
NETGEAR's GS105 Gigabit Ethernet Switch integrates 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps devices on the same network. Every port automatically senses the right speed and full/half duplex mode, while Auto Uplink technology automatically adjusts for straight-through or crossover cables.
LEDs embedded in each of the 5 RJ-45 jacks make for easy monitoring. Space-saving dimensions are ideal for desktop or wall mounting in home and small office environments. And it runs quietly, self-cooling without an internal fan.

Plugged straight in between XP Pro and Vista boxes each with Intel PRO1000/GT adapters -> copies 100Mb file in under 10secs. Runs cool & silent, uplinks to 10/100 switch via normal cable.

No Prblems

This is a basic product, just plug in the power and plug in your Cat 5 network cables and off you go! Works straight away with no problems. Runs completely silently (no fans) not crashed yet and been running over a month non-stop now. Can't say I have noticed any difference in performance over my 10/100 switch, but this is overkill for what I need. I have it plugged into a wireless AP and ADSL Router with no problems, I have 2 windows 2000 servers and one Windows XP all with gigabit NICs directly plugged in.

Limited Compatibility
Reviewed by Robert Groom. Review Posted 08/04/2009
Beware that this item does not appear to be compatible with all GB Ethernet interfce cards. It would not connect at 1Gbps with my Atheros AR8121/AR8113 (built into my ASUS P5Q Pro Motherboard) or my NetGear GA311 PCI adapter using known, good cables, though neither has any problem connecting at 1Gbps to other GB rated devices. I have since read of others who have had similar issues. It appears to be some inflexibility in the way it negotiates the speed of connection. Even with both devices set manually to 1Gbps, it would still only connect at 100Mbps. Ended up reluctantly returning the item.
