Fantastic piece of kit

I have been looking at external drives and Nas bixes for some time. After losing some data over Christmas I decided it was time to purchase something to backup data. After much research I chose the 1tb netgear readynas duo and I was so glad I made the investment. I was worried about noise as it is in my lounge but after initial power up the fan calms down and is almost silent. You get what you pay for. Great build quality simple setup but has a lot of functionality under the hood. Has the benefit of new Addons being developed for it. Check out www.readynas.com for useful info and functionality. Also using the built in iTunes server to good effect despite price over other models, you get great build quality, functionality in a small box, with the added bonus of the free netgear 1tb drive to provide a resilient raid 1 array. Ordered Friday pm received Saturday am great service from dabs. Highly recommended !!!!!!!

ReadyNS Duo 1tb
Reviewed by Chris-W. Review Posted 11/11/2010
Am very pleased indeed with this drive. It's our first NAS drive having upgraded from a basic USB external drive and have found it very easy to set up & work with.
We now have a single location in which to store all our work documents plus family photos & videos, with easy access across our network of five pc's and are happily streaming media to our XBox360 all without a hitch.
All said, an absolute bargain.

I was reading reviews and looking at many different drives to go on my wired network at home , decided on this one, when it arrived it set up was so easy I have 3 computers and my TV on the network and the NAS drive works a dream I can see photos and listen to music on all networked devices and its fast. only problem I had was with a laptop, for some reason windows firewall swirched itself on and blocked connection to the readyNAS. waiting for my free 2nd drive so I will update when that arrives

Netgear Pricing
Reviewed by J.Giffen. Review Posted 22/01/2009
Cannot understand netgear pricing this readyNAS Duo with 1TB drive is £591.00.
If you buy the bare box at 207.00 + the Seagate 1TB at 83.00 (as supplied in the above) you get £290.00

Great
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 14/10/2008
I know that these days hard drives are getting smaller and smaller, so storage space is not really a question of whether one can accommodate one more thing near their workspace. This said my first thought was that the NETGEAR ReadyNAS Duo looked so large, not so in real life, this little thing can be put anywhere and it gives me the freedom to stockpile my favorite music, movies and games with no worries of running out of space. I am not some computer expert, just a simple home user that loves to play a lot of games like The Sims and I always find that speed gets slower and the space runs out if I only had my computer at home for hosing the games, with this device I can really enjoy, buy expansion packs and download to my hears desire.

ReadyNAS Supreme
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 15/10/2008
What a fantastic product! I had previously used a different brand but have always had problems with configuring them and keeping them up and running. So when I recieved the ReadyNAS unit I was impressed by the quick and simple set up guide as well as the general look and feel. So far no technical issues either and the streaming seems a lot faster than my previous unit.

Best NAS I have owned
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 28/07/2008
I've owned 3 NAS (HP,Buffalo, and this). This is the best one for many reasons. First off, it's tiny, and quiet. About the size of 3 bare drives in width and about 1.5x the drive in length. Construction is out of metal and looks very sturdy. Metal should help with heat dissipation as well. The hot swappable drive is unique in this price range.

I'd avoid.
Reviewed by Lee . Review Posted 20/06/2011
The unit arrived, and is small, quiet, and easy to use. Unfortunately I couldn't get my unit to stay on the network for more than around 15 hours. After trying numerous different things to try and resolve the fault Netgear relented and sent a replacement unit. Unfortunately this didn't stay on the network for more than about 10 minutes.
Maybe I was unlucky, but I'm now looking for an alternative solution...
