I have now increased my score for "Overall product rating" because a solution to the DLNA server problem can be found at http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=59408&start=15#p345654 - This work around appears to apply to the ReadyNAS Duo v2 as well as the ReadyNas NV+ v2. Unfortunately I feel that the complications I have already mentioned prevents me doing the same for "Ease of use".

Good if you're not fussy!

If you are looking for a NAS with decent redundancy at a low price, stop reading this review and just buy it.

There are a couple of things that irritate me about it... Mine is configured so the two internal drives are mirrored, and I have an external drive which I use only for Time Machine backups. I have it configured like this because I don't want two copies of my Time Machine backup. Storing data on the internal mirrored drives effectively costs twice as much as it would to store the data on the non-mirrored external USB drive. Unfortunately the web interface does not allow you to configure it like this, but NETGEAR do provide an addon which allows you to login via SSH. You are able to configure it as I have done in a relatively unreliable and hackish fashion, which I do not recommend.

The other thing that annoys me slightly is that the mirroring is not true RAID1 and has an internal process which copies the data over. Not entirely sure how much I trust it.

Only had this product for a few days and only today have I managed to get it working at speeds I would expect.

Nicely made unit, smaller than I expected. I purchased my own single drive (at the moment) and set the unit up (took two attempts for some reason) however it's now working OK. Quick set up guide could be more helpful as it is very short of information the manuals (available on the installation disk) do have more information though. I have mapped a drive letter now for quick access.

Initial speeds for read write were a poor 0.66mbps and 0.64mbps, however changing my NIC settings from '100mbps/Full Duplex' to 'Auto Negotiate 1000mbps' cured the problem giving 42.36mbps and 50.26mbps respectively.

At the price I am happy with the purchase, i just need to sort out a suitable folder structure, and of course get a second drive to take advantage of the Mirror capability of RAID 1.

I purchased a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo V2 (with a free 1TB Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS hdd) from Dabs on 29/03/2012 for £149.98. Pluses: [1]The effective price of the ReadyNAS Duo V2 on its own was about £65-75! [2]Fast, silent and robust hardware. [3]Windows share (Samba) server works reliably. Minuses: [1]Linux RAIDar does not work unless software firewall disabled (hardware based router firewalls no problem). [2]DNLA (UPnP) server only streams images reliably, not video or audio (no firmware updates are proposed to address this problem so far). [3]Attempted connection to the Dashboard interface (either directly via numeric IP address or via RAIDar's Setup) initiates a secure (https) connection with an untrusted (self certified) certificate warning so you have to agree to a security exception before you can login. [4]The USB ports cannot be accessed via Samba and are dedicated to a backup function via the Dashboard interface.
