Description

Based on a cutting-edge architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives raise the bar once again and deliver unprecedented performance for the complete gamut of gaming and professional multimedia applications. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to surpass the competition where it counts most, pushing the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates. With spectacular performance in 4k file writes up to 50,000 IOPS, these drives take productivity to the next level with over ten times the performance of the previous generation. Using the controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives.

With sheer performance that outpaces the competition, the Vertex 2 doesn't lose sight of what makes an SSD the ideal storage alternative to hard drives and delivers the quality, reliability, and durability demanded by consumers that will not settle for anything but the best. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today's mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive's lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

Have used this product with Win 7 & Linux. One reason I chose it was dubious status of TRIM support on my motherboard.

Provides not just great performance but silent operation! :)

There was some initial difficulties due to the firmware upgrade, new Linux kernel may have fixed this but at time neither Windows nor Linux could do it in any version I tried. Now I have live data so don't really want to do that flashing. Seems like I need not have bothered, so just dropped 1 point on "Ease of use".

At first I just installed some applications on the drive & used the drive for pagefile.sys, for first few months.

Follow the advice, fresh install of Win 7 after firmware update & partitioning; I alloted a 60 GB partition using old hard disk for little used software suites like Office stuff & large games.

Won't bother with trad Internal hard disks again, external USB drives are cheap & can handle backup & multimedia archives.

I purchased 2 of these to upgrade my parents dell vostro laptop and workstation. I installed windows 7 from a USB pen drive onto the drives and I've never seen an OS install so quickly, except dos 5, but that used to only be 2-3 1.44Mb 3.5" disks, anyone remember them? :P Anyway, windows experience score for the drive was 7.2 on the 1700 vostro laptop and 7.4 on the workstation. Obviously OS installed and loads very quickly. Apps load in a blink of an eye. Visit the OCZ forums for best practices after installing OS. For example switch off indexing and defragmenting on Windows 7. Forget memory/proc upgrades if your device is 1-2 years old. Get this drive and enjoy instant data access.

Still on the expensive side for the size of HDD, but in terms of performance it can't be beaten.

I've never boosted PC performance with an upgrade this much in the past, everything loads in an instant, Laptop now boots in about 10-12 seconds!

This is arguably the single piece of hardware that made the most difference to performance of any single piece of hardware I have ever bought.

Boot up times are so much faster, as soon as I entered my password into windows I can use my pc instantly. No more waiting for antivirus, google talk, sound drivers etc etc to load.

If you dont have a raid setup with normal hard drives, I reccomend getting one of these, for your os and a few games.

Installed very easily into late 2008 model MacBook Pro. Used Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer 40GB of used space from internal 320GB drive to the Vertex 120GB via FW800 (in under 30mins). Powered off laptop, switched hard drives over and rebooted.

Pro's: very fast compared to stock hard-drive. Boot-up in Verify Permissions after install. The Sandforce-1200 firmware Garbage Collection seems to work fine under Mac OS X (no native trim).

After spending months trying to decide which SSD to go for I decided to go for the OCZ Vertex 2 and I'm pleased that I did.

Installation was extremely straightforward, and read times have gone from 40MB/s to 250MB/s! (I tested before & after)... write times have also increased at about the same level translating to much faster boot/shutdown speed and application launches. Often as a consumer I don't expect to get close to the advertised speeds but the OCZ does perform as advertised in my experience.

Can't comment on reliability yet but if you are considering getting an SSD I would recommend this one.

Super fast my laptop boot time has gone from over 2,30min to 56 sec. Apps load super quick to and my laptop doesn't have TRIM support.
I have windows 7 adobe cs5 and some other Apps and still have 56gb left.
I would recommend a SSD upgrade to anyone, it is the single best upgrade you can do.
