Based on a cutting-edge architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives raise the bar once again and deliver unprecedented performance for the complete gamut of gaming and professional multimedia applications. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to surpass the competition where it counts most, pushing the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates. With spectacular performance in 4k file writes up to 50,000 IOPS, these drives take productivity to the next level with over ten times the performance of the previous generation. Using the controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives.
With sheer performance that outpaces the competition, the Vertex 2 doesn't lose sight of what makes an SSD the ideal storage alternative to hard drives and delivers the quality, reliability, and durability demanded by consumers that will not settle for anything but the best. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today's mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive's lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

WOW this is fast, and only £94 :)

For the money you can not beat it. Its fast on reads not quite so quick at writes, but I knew that when I bought it.
So I'm not complaining.
Never believe whats written on the package about specs and speeds.
I did my reasearch on line,
read all the reviews and tests people had done on this drive.
This drive is the best MLC SSD
around.
If I wanted quick I would buy a hyperdrive5m for £199 and fit 12GB of ddr2 ram for £500.
But I don't have £700 to spend.
My second choice would be 2 Western Digital VelociRaptor 600 GB in raid 0.But again I don't have £400 to spend.
Plus I would need a fast raid card thats another £570.

Finding the best SSD for your money is a really difficult thing to do but I have no regrets when it comes to this beauty. It turns my little Dell Inspiron 1564 into a monster and got a 7.6 window experience score for Data transfer rate. The SSD continued to impress when tested in my Alienware M17x getting an amazing 7.7 WEI. Overall the drive far exceeded my expectations and turned out being a more noticeable upgrade then the jump between 2GB and 4GB memory. And for less then £100. Thanks Dabs!

£89 well spent!

Decided to get this 60GB version to be used as a OS drive, and wow, Windows 7 is so much snappier now. I did a startup test with my previous harddrive (Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB) by launching 15 applications immediately after loading Windows. Loading Windows 7 to launching all the stuff took 3 mins 7 secs. The exact same test on this SSD took 31 seconds! A mere 31 seconds!! That's what I call an improvement. To get everything out of this drive, make sure you use AHCI mode, and disable Disk Defragmenter and all that stuff. Also, my drive came with the latest firmware, v1.24. Good purchase, definitely!

I have a habbit of starting my computer, logging in and launching e-mail, web browser, notepad and media player... then i normally go off and start making myself a cuppa.
Not anymore, almost instantly the individual programs appear.
Dropped points because of cost and 60GB is not really enough space for anyone with alot of apps and a handfull of modern games.
Also check out the Internet for how to setup your system correctly for an SSD or you wont get the full potential!

Postscript to my previous review

(I have set a 'star' rating on this review to 3 solely in order not to unfairly bias up/down from my previous review). Since my review, I have been contacted directly by OCZ who are keen to investigate. As we all know, not many manufacturers would even bother, so OCZ at least deserve some kudos for that. Once OCZ and I have arrived at a resolution - either reflecting creditably on the product or otherwise - I will revise my first review accordingly. :) Tim

Went faulty within 3 months
Reviewed by Tony. Review Posted 22/11/2011
While it worked it was quick device - booting Windows 7 in a few seconds. However within three months the device kept disappearing and crashing windows. Had to install windows on spare hard drive and was able to retrieve all data over a few reboots as the OCZ drive kept disappearing from the device list.

Really Poor Reliability - Drives just stop working.

On the face of it, this is a great drive at an attractive price. And when it works, it is pretty good. But there's a huge snag...
Drives "die". Meaning they temporarily or permanently get into a panic and are not even seen by BIOS, so you can't even repartition and start again. Seems related to sleep, or some such issue.
Check the OCZ official forums for details. Perhaps its partly related to different BIOS etc. Guess I should say that as clearly some people don't seem to have any problems.
Anyway, I've just had my second drive die, (that's the initial one and the replacement one) in the same week. Now started reading the official OCZ tech forums and learning that there are serious issues with this drive under what most people would think of as normal use.
Be sure to do your homework.

Magnetic HDD's not dead yet!
Reviewed by Tim C. Review Posted 30/11/2010
I expected this to galvanise my system, using it to boot Win7 Ultimate... it didn't, overall performance was pretty much unchanged.
Don't be fooled by the specs: It *doesn't* go anything like as fast as the claimed 265MByte/s. I tested it properly, and write performance varied between a maximum of 93.3MByte/s and 22.8MByte/s depending on filesize. Read speed varied between 148MByte/s and 128MByte/s. My Samsung SpinPoint 1TB drives easily outstrip it on Writes and aren't far behind on Reads - and that's at £40 for a terabyte rather than £95 for 60Gig. Might be ok for laptops but not for a proper PC.
Sending mine back for a refund.
