One of these smart looking desktop storage devices has sat happily on my desk for the last 12 months. One week after the year was up it has died. The drive just makes a clunking noise and Windows says that it needs formatting as it cannot read any of the information on it. As I was using it to store vast amounts of data on it going back over 30 years I'm not to pleased. A backup is a backup and as such I would expect the damn thing to last at least as long as it's warranty, which Samsung says is 3 years. However accessing the Samsung warranty department is another matter. It seems non existant. Maybe someone can give me a lead as to where it is, their web site can't. Over all though whilst it worked it was OK. A bit slow, but that's down to the USB connection and as long as you don't need to keep accessing the device it was fair.
There are better devices but keep a permanent record on a DVD or such as drives like this are not good enough as yet.
