I am a teacher and I use this at school for all my files; the pupils love it and so do I!

It is very easy to use and with Open Office I can update, save and sync files between lots of different versions of software at work and home without any problems.

Ideal for travelling, but I would recommend upgrading the memory for speed when watching TV online.

I personally don't think it needs an optical drive, but I know that puts some people off a small notebook - don't be, the advantages far exceed that one disadvantage.
