Appears to be made July 2008, with GDDR4 Memory. No mention of PCIE2.0, just says PCI Express Version on the box. Adaptors: VGA, HDMI, RCA, RGB, Crossfire bridge, 2x3SLI from 4 pin power plug. Instead of replacing the inadequate 300W PSU, I added a Thermaltake W0099 Power Express 250W. Under normal conditions, the HD3870 does not seem to need the extra power. It's only when running Benchmarks that the W0099 LED shows current is drawn. I am running it in a AMD Athlon X2 4000+, 2.1 GHz, which is

Second one I've bought.

I bought this Sapphire 3870 from dabs some months ago and ordered another recently for a friends upgrade. The design of the card has changed as now it is a single slot card (better for space inside) and has a smaller fan and heatsink and no exhaust outlet. Which means it runs hotter (up to 75 degrees) whereas the double slot ran no more than 60. Also the ram has changed from DDR4 to DDR3, although this doesn't make much difference either. Performance wise this card does most games maxed out except Crysis of course, which will run at a mix of high/medium well. For example I have Race Driver GRID and this looks stunning on this card on Ultra setting. The Catalyst drivers are also good as every release gives more improvement unlike a certain other companies. Overall great card should see you through for a good while and at this price all the sweeter.

I've just put this in my Athlon X2 4400+ box, upgrading from a nivia 7600GT. The performance hike has really impressed me. I can now play COD4 (1680x1050) with the detail on high, and crysis at same resolution on medium settings. Not bad for a home built mongrel of a PC. The card is a lot bigger that any other i've seen, so watch that it fits. PS also watched HD-DVD through it, so no probs with HDCP so far.

had one about a month now, no issues at all with it, works perfectly. upgraded from a x1050, so i was quite impressed with the way it handled new games with ease. runs perfectly fine on a 500w psu alongside a amd x2 +6400, which itself drains 125w!
i'm giving a 4 for ease of use because of catalyst. i hate this program, always screws things up, and it can be irritating to get rid of. just install only the drivers and the graphics card will work perfectly.

Excellent card

Excellent card. This CARD does NOT require very powerful PSU, depending on CPU about 400-500W will be more than enough, in fact the card consume less power than any of similar NVIDIA cards. Excellent picture quality while watching Blu-Ray (less than 10% CPU load).

Question
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 26/04/2008
I'm considering purchasing this product, however, I'm a little off-put by the requirement of a power supply... they appear very expensive.
Is there any way, or different make, that includes something - like a cable or simple power adapter - to allow me to use the card without paying loads of excess for a power supply?
