Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500GB 7200RPM 8MB USB

I used previous customer reviews to help my assessment of the Drive. I ordered it and received it the next day. I've used it with my Asus laptop and Dell Desktop. Each time installation was easy and the drive was easy to use. I've backed up over 800 photos and my Desktop on each one. It does exactly what it says.

Had one of these for a few months now and had absolutely no problems at all. It runs constantly for about 6-12 hours a day on the uni's DC++ network. Mostly from people downloading from me, so I'd say its being run pretty damn hard, and at pretty high speeds (10-13mbs usually.) It's hardly ever idle when on, everything I have is on this drive.

It's really silent and I hardly notice it's there, it's also really fast. At present I have 10gb left on it (need another one!) and it's still just as fast as when I got it. I've even taken it home quite regularly so gets a fairly hard time wrapped up in shirts in my rucksack, getting bumped around on my back. But it's still good as new.

Only beef I have is that it's fairly top heavy with a small footprint and could easily be toppled over. Although I have dropped it accidently it still worked fine.

A real workhorse hidden in some fancy packaging with a pretty glowing strobe.

Arrived this morning - a replacement for a noisy Iomega that died on me after 3 months :( Tt is a plastic box, but a nice plastic box. Base stand works well (this is not a power supply as another reviewer has said.) The soft amber bar does a hearbeat pulse when the drive is in use, and a constant glow when idle, but this never gets too bright. The USB into the back is the smaller type. Was worried as my previous drive had 16mb cache, this has 8. Doesn't seem to be any slower. After my very clicky metal boxed iomega this one is virtually silent which is excellent. T universal plug although convinient for travel, is quite large and the lead goes out to the side, not ideal extension bars. Backup software is clean and functional. Works on my XP and vista machines. Bargin £65 with free delivery. Ordered Sunday - tried to deliver Tuesday! Hope it doesn't die! 5 year Seagate warrantee gives confidence!

I bought this the other day and backed up over 45Gb of data and other stuff. It was easy to set up and use, well worth the money.

Does EXACTLY as it says on the box, unpacked plugged in and backed up almost 5Gb of data in what felt like no time at all.

For tha MAC users that complained if they read the print on the back of the box it tells you what you need to do, fair enough the writing is small but there is a load of other languages as well.

I have had this for a few weeks and not had any problems as stated on other reviews that I have read and it's even cheaper now as to when I bought it!!! typical but will definately buy one of these again

This hard drive is really fast and looks great too. Handles all my photographs and digital video, and still have loads of room to spare. Even backed up hard drive onto it.
