Description
This 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Media Memory Card Reader installs easily into an open 3.5in drive bay, allowing full read/write access to popular media/memory card formats - a convenient solution for transferring data from digital media devices such as digital cameras, DV camcorders etc. to a computer without having to connect the digital media device directly to the computer.
The media/memory card reader connects to the host computer through USB 2.0, allowing data transfer rates of up to 480Mbps - providing quick, simple access to memory card contents.
The card reader is a versatile and cost-effective solution that lets you access popular media card formats including CompactFlash (CF I, CF II), IBM MicroDrives, Smart Media, Multi-Media, and Memory Sticks (MS, MS Pro), allowing you to use a single card reader for all of the different memory cards you use, as opposed to using different memory card readers for each application.

Why an Extermal plug?
Reviewed by Giles Wakefield. Review Posted 23/02/2007
Wish I'd read the reviews before picking it up. I can understand why an external plug might be warranted, as it then gives the option of using it as an external card reader, but to REQUIRE it for what is supposed to be an internal component (obviously, since it ALSO has wiring for connecting to a motherboard header) seems stupid. so now I have to completely ruin the nice, professional-looking PC I've built by having a lead coming out the back of the case? Come on, this is ridiculous. I think I'm going to sacrifice the warranty to chop the cable and solder on a connector so I can use the motherboard header. if I wanted an external card reader I would have bought one. Don't buy this if you care about the look of your PC!

hand little upgrade, very easy to install, has a usb plug, to plug it internally to a usb controller or to feed out the back to a rear usb slot. also has cables to connect straight to onboard usb controller of motherboard.
very handy!

Needs external USB connection
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 17/02/2007
The unit has 2 USB connectors, a type A and a motherboard connector. The motherboard connector is a female terminal block with 3 holes for VCC, D- and D+ and a fourth single connector provides the GND making the arrangement flexible enough to connect to most motherboard headers.
Unfortunately the motherboard connector does not drive the card reader but instead links to a front mounted USB socket on the device (not shown in the illustration). To make the card reader function, the standard type A connector must be used so make sure you have a spare socket of this type, or an adaptor for the motherboard header.
The manufacturer confirmed to me by email that to make the card reader and front USB port work, both the motherboard connector and the type A USB must be connected.
